Coin?

What kind of coin is this? There is no date, and the symbols look Chinese.
It was about 3 in down at an old courthouse in TX.

It's a Japanese 10 yen piece. The building shown is the Phoenix Hall of Byōdō-in. Sorry, I can't read the year.

The coins is dated "Showa 47" which means it is 1972
