Colonial Copper and chewed musket ball.

[NJ Marty]

Got out today before the rain and managed two finds in the short 45 min hunt. First was this chewed musket ball, looks like insicor tooth marks bit real deep into this one. Then the rain started and I gave myself a goal of working the area right next to the old road for a few more miniuts before the machine got soaked. I got a great hit at 8 inches and out popped the friendly King George disc . Was hoping to get a date off it but can only make out the 17??.
Thanks for looking.

Nice chewed musketball! I have one in my collection from 18th century militia campsite found in NC recently. I had a local dentist inspect my chewed musketball, and next step is a forensic dentist, for further analysis. I think they are very interesting artifacts for site identification and what went on at these campsites. Congrats on the coin too. What great history we have surrounding us, and thanks for sharing.

If memory serves me, the date should be 1729-1739, because it looks like the young head version of the KG half pennies. Can you get much detail on the Brittania? Nice finds.

I remember reading something here about "chewed" musket balls... but I don't remember what! Was it a medical thing? Like they used it to clench on during painful procedures? (We all know what we're talking about...)
