I could see this being a Flying Eagle, as shown below. First photo is the original photo upside down. Second photo is a non-cruddy FE cent. Note the line of the underbelly of the bird.

There is a problem with the "O" on the reverse, though, unless that is just a corrosion spot. If that is really a letter or marking on the coin, then it isn't a FE cent.

Oh, and one more thing--notice how the photo is distorted when flipped upside down. Always for an ID we need a photo taken DIRECTLY above the coin. That way we can turn it to any orientation without distortion. Please re-post a better photo.

Congrats on some neat finds. Looking forward to seeing what the mystery item is.
That's a large button in the upper right. Colonial? What size is it? (cm)
Thanks,
MM
the button is Defiantly colonial,a hair larger than a nickel.I've been comparing the coin to coins in the redbook, messin with the photos by changing the colors etc.and i have found that you can make out more in black and white. So if nothing else I'm learning some different ways of getting a better view.I'm going to get some better photos with my bud's camera and if all else fails I'll try the peroxide with a little olive oil. Thanks all for the input I'll let y'all know what i find.Have a good one all !

Hello Buckelboy,I came to the conclusion that it isent a FE cent as the "o" i think is definatly that.I also think i can make out a large "V" in the same photo in the lower right corner ??? I'll get some better photo's later today and mabey we can solve this mystery ! My bud said that the mystery is part of the fun, well i think it would be a whole lot better without the mystery ! :D

Nice Colonial button!

Those mystery coins can drive you crazy, but it's entertaining at the same time. I can't wait to see what it is now either!

Congratulations on the finds!

I played around in photoshop with it as well, and you're right that there is definitely a fairly large "V" in one spot. I still have my money on some kind of token and not a coin.

Don't mix the peroxide with the olive oil. The olive oil will keep the peroxide from working as well.

Do peroxide first. Post photos if any of the crud comes off...

Yup i usualy do the peroxide then just a dab of oil to bring out some detail.I used my bud's camera and dident get any better pic's.I forgot that i have a digital zoom were i can take a pic of the pic after zooming in and I'm going to try that here shortly.

Ridley,I had a mystery button last year that i found at an old colonial site.Wasent a mystery for long though,I showed it to my buddy and he says "well your right it does have lettering,it says Carhart " :D

Took more pic's,then tryed the peroxide and more pic's.Not much better but after the peroxide i could make out a # 27 lower rigt side. and about two thirds of the way down a half circle of lettering that i thought said "Broadway" but looks to be other letters that i cant make out, below that is what looks like a date of ??14

This is hardly an expert opinion, but "Man, that sure looks old to me". That amount of encrustation seems to indicate early 1800's on back.

I'm going to watch for updates, because that sure looks like an interesting coin.
The button was extremely nice, too.

Is it a Roman coin? :o :D
:D ;D It wouldent be the first time a roman or actualy i think Greek coin was found along the susquahanna.I also read awile back of a copper pot found in an Indian buriel site that was belived to come from greece. ;)

Nice finds... I also hunt along the Susquehanna (down here in NE PA) and the coins come out in pretty rough shape. Luckily, many of them are old so I don't care!

I swear I can just make out an eagle in flight on this coin.
