Well much like Iron Patch has done with his research, myself and hunthicks have re-visited the way we have been doing research for some early sites and it has paid off with the flood gates opening. Unfortunately hunthicks has only made it out halfway through the hunt for about an hour which he did ok for that time period. The day started out on the wrong foot with no pun intended, but I had forgotten to pack my rubber boots so bought a new pair after wasting an hour of hunting time…
We then decided to try a number of households to obtain permission for the days hunting and future outings. The first place we hit, my first target was a speed the plough token, then a Geo III which I made an agreement with the landowner that I would give him but if I found silver I would be able to keep it, he agreed…Wasn't meant to be as my other detecting partner pulled out a half dime seated Liberty 1856… Not wanting to be followed by the farmer all day we opted to try another site we have been eyeing with our research…Bingo---it ended setting the pace for the day, as over 30 coppers have been pulled between 3 of us, along with some first for me…This New Brunswick Regiment button has been on my list for number of years …Such a great hobby as we don't know what the next find will be…Also got my first counter-stamped Hibernia coin marked AC (believe IP has the same one) and also my first Dutch coin dated 1771. The coins range between early French to Victorian…hard to get some picture off of the crusty coins...I believe we lacked in the button departed due to the longer grass and digging mostly high tones, so it will be a place we will be visiting again in the Spring. Hope to break my silver slump before the end of the detecting season...Love it when research and perseverance pays off…Thanks for looking

apologize for the flipped picture but showing straight here….

Congrats on a great day! That is a really nice counterstamp. Do you know anything about it? Really cool to knock that button off your wanted list. One thing I've learned this first year is that if your research is right you really can't lose. If you consistently get into the right spots the finds will come. Some are just better than others.

I have a 1771 skilling as well, nice finds all the same.

I'm glad you had a great day, but wishing I was able to be there for the whole thing once I saw what you guys were pulling! :notworthy: I knew that site looked good when I had scouted the area a couple weeks ago, and managed a decent haul for the hour I was there as well. 3 coppers, Canada Militia button etc. Would have stayed till dark had the wife not been waiting in the car haha.
I think that group of fields and the surrounding area is going to hold lots for us in the future.

oh, you guys must be talking the one you come here looking for. Then keep hunting my display case! :tongue3:

That's the one i'm talking about...although I now know that I have a decent chance of finding one in my own backyard...just got to get on the right sight!

I don't know anything about it and when I noticed the counter-stamp I somehow remembered that IP had one but wasn't that sure…If anyone knows anything about IP would…but also thinking he stated there was no information on it…I could be wrong..

That's a really cool button. I have some militia buttons from around 1812 but nothing linked to the war. Awesome counterstamped too!

No ID that I am aware of. The most interesting thing I can add on it is that back around 2000 the Cladman dug a Halfpenny our first day at the KAR4 site stamped STP on one side, and the same AC countermark on the other. Here is the listing for that one, and unfortunately no ID either. I can tell you it's true about them being misrepresented because I actually seen this happen and the coin sold for $360.

PS: Back in the day the Cladman posted his coin on the original Canadian metal detecting forum and was promptly given the ID of Shell Oil token. We laughed about that one for several years.

Yeah may be just one of those things we'll never know…But now I have one (AC), I have a new appreciation for them :headbang:

Given neither of us can dig a silver coin we'll call this counterstamp... "Another Copper"

Looks like a lot of fun, with some good finds
