Coney Island hunt Monday AM

I met up with fellow T netter StormFighter at Coney Island. The weather was good but it seamed like the new beach cleaning machines there useing there hit the dry sand hard. Im guessing the new machines pick up broken glass too. I spent most of my time in the surf while Stormfighter hit the towel line. I did find parts to an old lamp and a fired/unfired round "9mm" . Had a great day with a fellow member!

Nice pictures! Many folks don't know that the Army took the concept of the parachute tower at Coney Island and converted it into a training device for Paratroopers at Fort Benning, Ga. The Coney Island version was originally built for the Worlds Fair at Flushing Meadows before WWII and was later moved to Coney Island. It didn't release the riders from the actual cable that lifted them. The Army version cuts you loose for a ride free from the cable.

I got my free ride on the 250 foot Army version back in the early 1970's. Here is a You Tube Video that has a part showing the Army Version, (the large red and white towers). Pretty neat!

Dachief cool video, Ft Benning was my back yard going up. An i seen the jump towers, My dad was stationed there during Vietnam. He was airborne/ Ranger, COTTON

Good deal Cotton. I grew up about 40 miles north of Ft. Benning in Alabama. I served with the 2nd Ranger Battalion in the early 70's and before that I was at Ft. Bragg with the 5th Special Forces Group. Many moons have passed since then but lots of good memories and great people. Ft. Benning was just a blip on the Radar of time but it is a memory that I will never forget. I plan on taking my two boys there one day to show them everything before technology changes things in the training arena and the towers are replaced.
