I had another great day on the water today. It was amazing that I was waist deep and still sweating like crazy. Hot! I took a few more underwater shots for you guys. I really like them and hope you do too.

First up is a group shot of my better finds. The pocket watch is full of split shot. When I first found it I though it might be gold coins in there! :'(

Next is an in-situ of the Read shell. I fanned some of the overburden from it and this is what I saw.

And here it is placed on a rock

I turned around and this was staring at me. At first I thought some sort of alien being, but soon realized it was just a creepy snapping turtle skull.

Here I am as happy as can be...

Here is a a Connecticut copper I found at a ford...

P7200033.webp

I also found another bullet sinker. This one is made out of a Civil War Savage bullet (or so I believe)....

And finally a piece of case shot. I found several of them today...

Thanks for making it to the end!

It's spelled "READ" :tongue3: Sorry,couldn't stand it....

Dude, I'm the worst and sloppiest speller. Without a doubt you will see me post about the "Civel War" at some time. My brain says if it sounds like a duck... close enough :tongue3:

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

Wow! An accumulation of all of the finds from this site will give you a heck of display, probably going to have to put them in a display like the "shark pit" display. Glad you added underwater pics as well, keep at it.

Another great find and post.

A complete shell has always been on my want list.

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

Awesome finds! Sure would be cool to dig relics in the water.

Nice finds! What type of detector are you using?

Those underwater pics are sweet. Detectin' in the water is about the only way i'd want to be doing it the past few days around here during the day.

Amen to that!

You have one serious sweet-ass site, kills me that I grew up in MD, and never did any serious detecting.
Keep that place secret!
Carl
Yeah, ditto on that growing up in Maryland part. Nice finds you got there aquachigger, mums the word!

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

Fascinating - great finds! I sent you an email with some questions. Thanks for posting.

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

Dude-you are killing it out there!! Super finds!!
What was that artillery shell fired out of-not familiar with that type?
My favorite is still the Spencer you posted previously. Can't believe that didn't make Banner. Also can't wait to see her cleaned up.
Keep those great posts/finds coming. Helps keep the spirit up to see someone making the finds you are.

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

Yep, that's a USMC "Expert" rifle badge. "Sharpshooter" was an Iron cross type, and "marksman" was a square target type. Kinda strange that was there. I'm a 10th award expert and have my badge in a safe place. Of course it's the same badge I received in boot camp (each additional award plate is hung below the actual badge) so there is a lot of meaning to it.
Great finds!!!!!!!

Super sweet relics, how cool that Read shell looks laying in the bottom, I don't think I would see it if I was just eyeballing the bottom without a detector. I hope you the best next time out. HH

Re: Confederate Reed artillery shell and a creepy skull...

When you dive, you should never dive alone. I have my own gear--dive partner.

Again I ask: What's the story with this spot? I'm not so interested in where it's at as much as why the place is there in the first place. You all talk about saving history... so what's the history? Was it a CW camp and that's why there so many bullet sinkers? What's the history?

Awesome finds! HH, Mike

Very nice indeed! Not that I wasn't already inspired by your finds but now I've learned that you're hunting with the AT Pro? Right on, I liking mine a lot but haven't had it in the water yet. I'm not real hip on submerging it at the moment but it will see the water soon. The skull is cool too. WTG!
