I believe that it is a dandy button. Silver Zeus and I both found one at our Colonial site in May.

Those big buttons from the 1790's era are always nice to find and the vast majority have design, sometimes the design is almost worn off, but I think 90% of my big buttons have a design of some sort. Nice find, also nice indicator for finding coins from that era. :)

Nice find bookfisher... Sure wish I had some old woods (places where 1790 stuff is lost) to hunt... You Easterners have it good ;) ...

This 'Dandy' Button in my book is dated 1750-1780. Went of of fashion in 1790s in Britain. Not sure about the US. The 'Dandy' wore them to impress the women.

Hey Crusader,

Thanks for dating the button. I appreciate it.

I found a button once, but it just said Levis......................ugh
Sweet one you found there though. I dont recall ever seeing such detail one one.
Than again I am about the farthest thing from a button expert you will ever find. I do know how to use them though. :P ::)

In the same area where I found my "dandy" button, I found the coin that is my avatar.

Hey! I always look forward to your posts. Nice button. It looks like the shank is still fully intact too!

Hey Neil, thanks alot. Yes, the shank is totally intact. If your ever on the island, look me up and bring your machine.

Beautiful button!

I see why they call it "Dandy".

Congratulations!
