Was working the neighbors front yard again today. Our subdivision is built on what used to be an old farm. His lot is nearest to what was the farm house, and is surrounded by a grove of old oak trees. Most of the yard is undisturbed. Part of it was a planted field at one time. So the Mrs. and Young'n where watching me pluck tin cans out of the ground for a half hour, when I find the second coin of my TH'ing career. A 1920's wheat penny. I have to clean it up a bit to see the exact date. That was pretty cool. The first coin was a 1991 nickel I found on my lawn an hour earlier. Not quite as exciting.
So I go back to tin can removal for a while, and get another target in the same area as the wheat penny. I commence to digging, and feel my hand shovel hit metal. Has the familiar "feel" of tin can, but I dig anyways so as to clean up my hunting grounds. I get the hole big enough to where I can slide the target out of the ground, and that's when I found out this was no tin can....

Appears to be a tag from a plow or implement of some type, and it's made of what I believe to be copper. I'm tempted to put some polish to it, but I think that would reduce any value the thing might have. From what I've Googled so far the company was bought by Case in 1937. The patent dates on the tag 1905 and 1906. I'll have to do some more research this evening and see what it belongs to.
