Up here in the great north woods of Wisconsin MD this morning after a all night rain storm at this private property that was once a resort in the early 1900s ,Hoping to find some early coins, starting from the back lot after 15 minutes got this low penny signal from my AT Pro about 5 inches down , expecting maybe a Indian head penny I pulled out what appeared to look like a copper arrowhead , not knowing anything about it and thinking it was some old copper pipe slag that someone threw in a campfire so I just put in my trash bag and continued on well it started to rain again so I went home ,dump out my trash and this copper (slag) and remove some of the dirt on it and the closer I looked at it the more curious I thought I better do some research and I think I may of come across a possible Archaic Copper Arrowhead that might be a thousand or more years old that are found to be in this area. But not sure where to go from here or the right thing to do with this artifact.

nice find congrats HH

Wow, looks to me like you made a great find. I think you got the real deal.

It is a Archaic Copper Culture Spearhead, post up a Thread in the native artifact forum. :occasion14:

Oh yeah, that is an awesome find! 100% legit ancient Copper Culture projectile point, and having a socket versus just a flat tanged point is a great bonus. What's the length/width of the point? It looks like a spearhead to me. Rarely does a detectorist in America get the privilege of finding and holding a piece of ancient Native American metallurgical technology, which may be as old as the pre-bronze age Chalcolithic period in Europe! :icon_thumleft: I find ancient metal projectile points and spearheads fascinating, and Europe is the best source for them in terms of numbers, but the rare Native American pieces are my favorite. Thanks for sharing this rare and special find! :headbang:

wow! copper culture spear point for sure. holy cow that's awesome!

WOW!!!!! that is awesome great find.

Check your PMs, I sent you a link for further research.

First off, welcome to TNET! You really know how to introduce yourself--what an amazing recovery you have made. I sure am glad you pulled it from that trash bag. The many experts here should be able to confirm what appears to be a major find. Backbacon and Plumbata seem to know what they are talking about. Thanks for sharing this find with the forum. If it wasn't for you being a new member, this find would no doubt merit banner status.

Don't clean it either, and yes, welcome to Tnet.

The first examples of worked metal in the Americas. Screw the gold, this is the type of thing that get's me pumped too eh.

Hi-ho-Silverado,

Congratulations on a great Pre-Historic find!

Don't know how far you are from Oconto, but that might be a museum to visit: Copper Culture Museum

Fantastic debut find, sir!

I bet the real thing. And it might have come from the mines where the biggest copper boulder was found. Great find your lucky.

CONGRATS on your fascinating copper spearhead! :notworthy: :occasion16: :hello2: I just read the link about the Copper Culture Museum area, then the link from there to the local native american woman who lived uphill from there until the age of 108, very interesting. Looking forward to more of your digs! Andi

Very cool find(you lucky dog) congrats and HH

That's a very cool find.. Congrats.

That's what it's all about! Digging and not even remotely expecting something that old and there it is a piece of history that is outstanding.

Fantastic find! That one deserves its own custom built showcase!

i used to walk the plowed fields looking for points, in my area the copper points are just small triangles with a tiny hole in the center aprox 1600s. nice find, congrats
