Actually only some 82's are copper... gotta weigh em... that was transition year.
And dont forget to weigh your 83's for that mega rare copper.

Actually, I can tell a copper 82 from a zinc 82 without a scale no problem and most all 82's are large date higher relief copper coins.

One reason for a shortage is most of them are here in a jar in my bedroom. Where I work, they are currently rounding down. So if it comes out $1.24, you pay $1.20. And I'm manipulating that to my advantage while that lasts.

You can count on the register/point of sale systems to be manipulated in the near future to always charge 03 and round up for cash purchased very soon, imo.

Last week I went to my bank and purchased 15,000 pennies that came in 3 bags. I am up to a little over 3500 Copper pennies, 71 Wheats and 6 Indians (including an 1874) and still have one bag of 5000 to look thru. My eyeballs are getting sore !

Do they accept the remaining pennies? Do you have a machine to count and re-wrap them?

I went to my small town bank today and asked for some rolls of the new 250th anniversary dimes. They were clueless and said they didn’t know how to order coins. It was a branch.🤷🏼

Banks are still accepting pennies, because you can still spend them. They only stopped minting them. I do not use a machine to sort them, I do it the old fashioned way at my kitchen table. I haven't decided if I'm going to roll the Coppers or just count them and put them into coffee cans with lids and label how many are in there. I usually roll the Coppers that I find in the wild and detecting, but because this was a large batch of 15,000 I don't know if I want to take the time to roll them all.

I have 6,000 cents, most pre-82. I wish there was an easy way to pick out the zincolns without looking at each one!

I weigh my pennies and it goes pretty fast.
I do up the 4 at a time and its easy.
Most of the time the copper is easily distinguished from the zinc.

That may change in the future... now that they are being fazed out.
You can actually melt some or make jewelry out of them...
or deface them for educational purposes only.
You just cannot do it for profits.

Remember in the 60s people sold pennies rolled out into a flat oval with something else on side, like The Lord’s Prayer. I guess it isn’t enforced unless you melt a bunch of ’em! 😊

There was a company in Ohio, for a while, that was using a machine to seperate the coppers from the zincs and was closed because of possibly legal action. Happened several years ago. Here is Florida, easy to tell them apart - the copper ones (pre 1982) don't disentergrate after month in salt water. Since Dec 8th found 2 Wheaties (1951-D, 1957) out of 197 found cents or about 1%. Haven't counted coppers, but probably about 20, or 10%. In other words, out of about 200 found cents, about 25-30 probably can be spent or saved, the rest so corroded that they can't even be spent - you literally can't tell the corroded ones are cents.

I find the rolled cents with "Pier 60" or "Disney World" all the time and, in fact, just found a Pier 60 rolled cent, yeasterday just south of Pier 60 Clearwater Fl.
