I still think it's part of a door knocker and that the open and is spread out a little bit allowing it to come apart

Does anyone know how this thing was made? Based on the pictures I posted does it look handmade?

Hopefully this will settle it: looks like a blacksmith's hand-forged bottle opener.

Except it's brass and not a bottle opener

A bunch of those are brass. Sure looks like a bottle opener to me. Even if it isn't, it certainly appears to be blacksmith "art" in the same vein. Appreciate the thoughtfulness either way.

Homemade teardrop drawer pull ? I'm 0.002% sure that's what it is, so I won't be wagering a whole heck of a lot on that idea of what this copper object is found at the known Indian mound with no name. :icon_scratch:

I said found near. I would never go treasure hunting at a burial site and I posted this in the artifacts forum first. Even if I was down the river two miles I thought it was close enough to mention. I was actually bottle hunting and this was a surface score

I think it looks pre-columbian, but don't have any idea what it could be.

I know what this is, it is Amerindian,
It is a unique peice i wish i had one.
It is a smoking tool used with peice pipes,
It was used to pass around the Censer or extra bowl attachment. I imagine it like this , meet up with my native budies to smoke some peacepipes around the camp fire, everybodys doin good and dexked out in silver n all so obviously we all got our own fancy pipes, nobody likes sharing. So we all smoke and have a good time. But one guy got some realy good herb, and he aint guna fill everyone pipe! So he compacts the hell outa the fancy extra ceremonial bowl "censer" and sticks it on the coals , they use your fancy tool to pick up the censer and pass it between the pipes and the coal, they used they fingers bot the bowl gets hot, and last thing you wana do is drop the bowl. See the bottom right of the photo

I like the pipe theory you can see marks like it was used to tap something in place
