Copperhead Road II

2-20-11 Hi TN, Back on the old trail again after a few disappointing hunts . I named this wagon trail " Copperhead Road" because of it's past history of half and large cents that have been dug here . Lots of horse back traffic and stuck wagons led to lost coins many years ago . Also the home of copperhead snakes . Excluding a 1794 Liberty cap half cent , a few damaged large cents and a worn mystery silver are the coin finds for me since 2010 :dontknow: don't get me wrong I am glad to find anything but condition goes a long way especially when posted on the world wide net .. Relics , finds have been a different story . A pistol , some fine & dandy flat buttons , horse tack harness mounts , watch case with Spirit of St. Louis plane , musket and mini ball lead have been some of the decent keepers. Fired up the Fisher CZ 7 for a search on the trail through the swamp to the old mill . After a few shotgun shell hulls and the usual junk , out popped a bridle rosette at 8 " deep . Lead back with loop that just needed a wash . Closer to the mill hit a 1956 wheatie . I get this feeling today is gonna be the day .Clay pottery shards, bricks , oyster shells , all scattered nearby . After a flat button and a brass furniture lock ornament , one cent id signal at least 6 " deep , for anyone who has used a CZ 7.....you know, that sound is un mistakable , sure enough , a large cent , :) I dug what is possibly the nicest looking 1807 draped bust copper coin I have ever had the pleasure to unearth . A quick peroxide dip , and a few Q tips later , this is without a doubt the best condition draped bust ever for me .Found an 1805 that's close to this but :o :hello2: :headbang: Reverse side is even nicer than the obverse . I am not going to say sandy soil but it is what is is ...a greenish brown patina toned beauty . ;D Just when I think , that is it , just one , within a few inches of this coin I get another solid coin id for copper ..Another large cent , 9-11 inches , a thick one ...I am about to fall over at this point , Liberty Cap , not as sweet as the draped bust largie , still a most sought after early US coin , after letting it cleaned up , it's a nice looking , gray toned , 1794 Liberty Capped Bust Cent :o even with a weak condition back ..I am finally into some , Early US . Finished the day , with a few more brass shell tops and a jar lid. Well that's the story , best part is No 50 mph wind gusts like Sat. , no bugs , no high weeds , no freakin' snow , 50 degrees and some goodies . Even my dog had fun . Thanks for stopping in , ;D CMD dawg
