there was a group of counterfeiters making those in western Ma. - its been a long while but ive seen some that were found
in the 1970s-80s

Years ago, I found a counterfeit 1820 Bust half dollar that was in the same general condition as your coin.
They decompose like zinc jar lids, but are more likely made of low quality pewter

I’m not sure. I can’t find much information on Authentic counterfeit coins. Mostly information on modern fakes. Would be nice to know. Thanks
