I was out for a couple hours today on a new site i never detected before. The farmer told me about this one and as i drove by he was harvesting on this field. Most was done so i gave it a try. It was a real PITA on a freshly harvested potatoe field. Easy to dig but difficult to swing the coil. I got lots of lead which is always a good sign and lots of trash. Only got a few coins but when cleaning them i noticed on one bend and completely toast AS two counterstamps. TIB and AVG. most likely a Tiberius, as Caesar. 12-14 AD. Æ As. Lugdunum mint. TI CAESAR AVGVST F IMPERAT VII, laureate head right / ROM ET AVG, front elevation of the Altar of Lugdunum, decorated with the corona civica between laurels, nude figures, & Victories. Counterstamped coins like this were often given to the troops as a gratification. Good day.
