Couple of dead Cottonwood Trees

This is in my neighborhood. When they build these homes in the early 1980s they planted a type of seedless cottonwood. They grow quickly, but many are now dieing off and getting cut down. The owner of this house had a better idea that didn't involve cutting them completely down.

Fantastic work. That cat looks almost alive. I can carve small stuff in wood but have never tried it with a chainsaw.

Living in logging country, there are some outstanding chain saw
carvers in the area. There is a local town, Sedro Woolley, that holds
a national chain saw carving contest each year as part of the annual
rodeo. Been going on for many years now, and if you walk the streets of downtown you see a couple dozen large carvings that have been
donated to the city.

I've got a 13' tall cedar stump right at the front of my driveway; the
massive tree snapped in a hellacious wind storm back in 1993, and
it crashed right into the middle of the roof on the house. This was 10 years before we bought the house. I've been eyeing the thing since we
moved in 18 years ago...I know there's a great carving to be found in
the stump, but I just can't see it yet...
