I found something different today. The coin is my favorite find. Didn't expect to find it, because I didn't use my metal detector. I didn't clean it yet, think I will need some tips on this one.

Throw it in a rock tumbler with pea gravel. Seriously, it will clean it right up. It's in terrible condition and I doubt any other method will get even decent results.

I'm sure everyone here will disagree with me, but I think many people don't realize just how much detail that can bring out of a "destroyed" coin. Not like it's worth anything at this point anyway.

Nice get it all good spot

I think I'm seeing a date of 18?? I'm seeing what appears to be the reverse of a Capped Bust half ! The eagle head is visible , as is
the scroll/ banner -with " e pluribus unum" Don't subject this to any harsh cleaning until you get this checked out ! Can any of
you other guys and gals see what I'm seeing here ? Turn the last picture that shows the large coin, a quarter turn clockwise and
you
can clearly see the eagle head and the ribbon /banner ! Ruslanmd - do you see this also ?

I realize that this coin looks to be something other than silver - (early counterfeit ? , pattern ?, token ???)

I see 1913 Capped Bust Half . The color not right or..?

I think I see 18_7. Could be 1817.

I see 18_3. I am soaking the coin in olive oil now .It's working: the crust is getting softer.

Yeah, this would be 1817 -- by 1917 we're talkin Walking Liberty half dollar , this is really mysterious !

Upper left of pic 4 at least 5 stars can be seen.

looks like a bust half to me. sweet!

Yes! I can see the date now!1813! Olive oil work. I think in 2 or 3 days coin will be clean. I'll post pictures after I'll be done with it.

I found some stuff in a crawlspace like that..only it was fairly dry and a lot of bottles still had (partial) labels on them....this crawlspace must be fairly damp..........Id get down there with a sifter(!)

This house have basement and crawl space. It's dry now but it's getting flooded sometimes. It will be interesting to excavate it all but it is not possible for now

I like mineral oil (baby oil) for cleaning all my good copper and brass now. Looks likes some interesting stuff especially the coins !

The 1813 50 c coin still in cleaning. I got most of the build up off . It's a beauty. Lemon juice and cotton balls work the best. Now it's bathing in olive oil while I am away from home

Anticipation is killing me, congratulations on a surprise find.

wow, keep us updated!

WOW! WTG! What did you use to clean it?

Yeah ! , That thing is Nice !!! Excellent find - how easily that could have gotten thrown into a "rusty what's it " bucket and forgotten
about - Great Save !
