okay, so I got a handful of halves from a very nice teller today. Alas, no silver but I did find a 2005 s proof and 81 d. I see the proof listing for about 6.50 and the 81 going for 5-20. Mine is in worn condition so I would assume the low end of that scale.

Are these coins really worth close to that or is that pie in the sky.

Thanks in advance from a newbie.

Welcome to t-net! I don't know anything about coin value, but your 2005 proof half looks beautiful. Maybe a knowledgable coin roll hunter will answer.
Have fun and please post your future CRH finds for us to see! Andi

Circulated proofs have little value and are generally hard to liquidate.

Double check that S my 2003 S set I purchased from the mint is silver! (I ordered it that way)

It looks clad to me but I'm such a newb that I could be wrong.

It looks to have a 2 tone rim.

Thanks brother, I'm really enjoying the hunting aspect of this, even though my wife thinks I am nuts. Lol, she's actually pretty supportive but thinks its crazy to get up at 5:30 go go hunting. That's been the only time I have been able to set aside so far. : (

Okay sorry I was just being lazy earlier I didn't want to dig through the safe I check the mint website and it states they would be 90 percent silver. An obvious to tell coin. But be aware they are still out there and I know there's kids out there and crack hwads that have opened them! Or at least I hope so

hey joe, post those on the crh forum those guys can answer anything, HH david

Hi Joe, CRHer here. They make both and I've seen the rims of the silver 2000 series proof half dollars. If it was silver, you would know. The funny thing is your post reminded me of my post a couple years ago when I asked/said the same thing.

The 81 D is common and really only desirable in high grade. It may fetch more than face on feebay. The impaired proof if it has lots of finger prints and such you might be lucky to get .75 out of it. Unless its silver so check the edge

Thanks,

I'm about to buy another 50 worth of halves.

Wish me luck.
