I once got the oppurtunity to tour the Homestake Mine in Lead South Dakota. The company I worked for at the time did contract work for them. We wnt down 6,800 ft. What a trip!
WOW! that would be cool. i know of a mine that is in a remote area and is not closed (boarded up) i want to go and look for the stuff they missed. when i say remote i mean at almost 14,000 ft.
Consider the Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine Tour (its open pit and was 1000 feet down when I went last year). My 8 foot tall Sprinter van is parked next to one of the small dump trucks at the site. I have a friend who works there as a dump truck driver.
Entrance to the mine is via the road that runs by next to the Molly Kathleen mine (dirt road) they run tours there. See http://www.ccvgoldmining.com/ for more info.
