rarely if ever have i seen anyone post any artifacts that are cubed in shape be it something used on the ceremonial side or be it something that was used as a tool etc. Several years ago on an adena site I found a cubed sandstone pc with a shaft abrader on one of the 6 sides. It was perfectly cubed and the sides were 2 1/4 in. on the dot on all sides. Wish I still had the pc to share with everyone but have somehow misplaced or lost it. Does anyone have any cubed artifacts?

All natural IMO

Some are naturally formed.
But I have 2 that aren’t or at least have been altered and used. Might have been natural in the beginning.
May I ask the reason you decided to go all the back to 2014 to pull this post?

Well I was looking up on Google artifacts cubes and one of the results show this Google brought it back to this conversation I didn't know it was from 2014 I just know I I am a member and figured since there was a conversation about it I would ask opinions

A guy who has collected for years told me that this “may” have been a stone used to pound, acorns, berries, etc., mostly due to it’s size and flat face. On TNet I was told it’s just a rock, due to no evidence of being altered by man. Then I see “artifacts” that look a lot like it. I’m very confused. I don’t sell any items I find, and I kept this cause it costs me nothing to store it. I don’t doubt anyone, but I sure can’t see the difference sometimes. I have a lot left to learn.

If I ever get another day off I will post some grinders I’ve found and divot rocks and explain what each one was used for. Very short handed at work right now

The skin on a rock is called cortex. If the rock was altered by man the cortex would be removed and show pecking which is called use wear. Takes a while to learn the difference. Keep trying

A long jasper cube / rectangle box ... Beach find... What is it ?

I know how these jasper ones are made,I have found a few myself. They are (with other siliceous stones) formed in a void in a seam over time. I am sure we have all seen a vein of quartz running through basalt.

It shows for me. If it was a field find which I believe I see plow scars. It could be a hammer stone but also could be damaged by farm equipment. Kind of a 50/50 chance

A piece of steatite from RI. I assume it likely was simply a broken sherd. It’s been ground on all 6 sides. Maybe a game piece, maybe something else, maybe unfinished. Not a perfect cube, but here ya go….

I would not guess at a worked edge on that stone, but rather the effect of tumbling?

I'm not sure if these pieces were made by man. Not sure what the context brings to them either. If you don't get many replies, it will be because they are not typical or familiar. Best guess is a manuport.
