Probably has something to do with the evolutionarily dictated biological preeminence of the risk-taking, hunter-gatherer instinct and increased rates of ADHD/impulsiveness/instant-gratification-seeking in men.

Feminists would blame the disparity on "oppression" via "The Patriarchy" and socially-enforced artificial gender roles which punish those who get their hands dirty.

Feel free to decide for yourself which makes more sense. :laughing7:

Well, my wife loves detecting.

As long as it's not too hot, the bugs aren't biting, the grass is cut short, there are no spiders or snakes anywhere, we don't spend more than about an hour, don't get dirty and don't break a nail or sweat.

Otherwise, she's all for it and loves to dig through all my finds, thusly claiming the chosen bounty for herself.

C'mon fellas, we all know the awful and undisputed truth. What woman do you know that wants to spend hours getting dirty with a bunch of so-so looking middle-aged white guys? Seriously, send me her number!

Women do not like metal detecting because you can't talk because you have to listen to the beeps. So there isn't much conversation(gossip) involved.

I'm very lucky and have a rare one! :dontknow:She loves metal detecting and being outdoors! She uses an older whites coinmaster 3 and a whites classic SL,classic 3 Just because that is what she is use to and likes. She has more fun digging in my holes when I locate something though, I think! Then she sets the stuff down after a while and wanders off to dig in the rocks and creeks looking for "pretty rocks" and minerals! And wander into possibly unsafe caves or holes in the ground with no fear at all. Go looking for her? and she squeezes herself out a hole telling me about the spiders and bones inside! Shes small and squeezes into holes I wouldn't even think of sticking my head up to and looking inside without caution. :laughing7: And she says "there's nothing in there but some bones and spiders you pus##!"

And to add....I just caught the coin collecting part......This was one of the saddest things of the about 25 years I've known her. From High school on she bought and collected coins. Built up a huge collection. About one of the only hobbies she had, shes not much of a material person. Had spent thousands, and had a real nice collection she was proud of. We were about 28 at the time. Her dad visited us, he hadn't seen her since she was about 16. Well, when he left? The collection was never seen again!!!!

She started building it over, but not with the same kind of passion!

Ohh, And shes not active in the forum but reads and adds to some of my comments, like this one!:laughing7:

My wife's idea of metal detecting is holding out her hand as I walk in from a day at the lake

Make 'em all "diamond" or "gem stone" detectors and there would be more holes than a colony of prairie dogs could dig in a generation................:laughing7:

So sad to be betrayed like that! Same happened to my Mom in the 80's - Dad showed up 10 years after divorce for a friends funeral, she let him spend a couple nights on the couch - when she got home from work, the coin collection (3 sets for 3 daughters) she had been collecting since the 50's was gone.

Hmm - I think growing up as a Tomboy made detecting a easy choice - not worried about dirt, outfit, bugs etc (I do have extreme paranoia about Rattlesnakes though)

Now if the makers of MD machines could set up the display like a slot machine - every swing is a "pull" and once in a while you hit something good! Ding ding! Just thinking of the casino ratio of Woman at slots and guys at Blackjack tables - has to be a correlation there somehow!
