I took advantage of the nice weather this past weekend other than the strong wind gust to get in some detecting. Hit some of my favorite spots and turned up a few keepers. The Barber Dime is my first silver coin to be found. Cant wait for the warmer weather to get here and stay, it snowed 5 inches last night. I dont know what the oval thing is in the bottom right of the picture. It appears to be made of copper. I am going to post it in the "What is it" forum. Thanks for looking and happy hunting.

Doggone! What happened to that poor Barber?? My silver looks so pretty out of the ground down here in Kentuck!

Congrats on all the great CW lead and the Barber. Those oval pieces have always baffled me too. I find them at my CW relic sites too. Some sort of grommets I'm sure.

Yea I don't know what happened to the silver. It definately has seen better days. There was hard mud clumped around the coin when it came out of the ground. I am sure the plows have nicked it a few times. The soil up here does not treat copper coins well at all either.

DIV is around the corner :icon_thumright:

Great looking lead,we got 6'' around my way but I'll give it two day's to be gone at the most.Congrat's on the silver

Nice bullets and oval thingie...what ever it is, you now have one. :hello:

Wow, what an amazing amount of lead for one hunt. I think I'd almost prefer the shot bullets over drops, one knows they actually flew through the air at some point. Never had the opportunity to dig any of that, sure hope to make it happen someday before every last spot of huntable land is buried under a parking lot or something!

Great finds, keep it up, treasure the opportunity you have!

Barber & cw lead thats a good hunt.

Your brass grommet is probbaly from a Yankee India rubber blanket issued to northern troops and a highly prized item when captured by the Confederates. I find them on post 1863 Union sites here in West Tennessee. Read the description of the only reference I could find, this is not a plug for the auction, just a reference.
