I found this yesterday and don’t know what it is. Does anyone recognize what this is? I believe the cap is brass, might be copper. It is filled with iron, weighs about 5 pounds and has some decorative design on side and top. Thanks for all the help and interest

Found the previous post.

Why do you think these are the same?

I say cap on some kind of pole, maybe electric? 1950's-1960's.

Because if you read through the linked post, there are examples like the one posted here, and there is mention of the "T" like impressions.

See 2 pictures below from the linked post and 1 picture from this post. Notice the similarities, that is why I linked it. They are slightly different in dimensions, but serve the same purpose, which we don't know what is yet

So this is why I think they are the same/similar. Unless you can argue against my reasoning, I'll stick with my assumptions.

Ok guys this is getting very interesting. I can tell you that I found this object on the site of the home of the Famed Lola Sanchez Confederate Spy. Two weeks ago I also found what some have referred to a Confederate Artillery Hammer. The Hammer is in Electrolysis right now. I will post a picture of it when it is preserved. I mention this because that now makes three references to the Confederacy at the said property.Very interesting

These things are an enigma that is for sure....!

I've exhausted my vocabulary looking for examples with a definitive ID and I've come up blank, oh and with a headache from eye-strain.

Not a one off item, as several have appeared. All believed to be artillery projectiles, but no known example of this exists in any known literature or research. One would think that with the magnitude of Civil War Artillery researchers, that someone would have an illustration or photo of one.

Most of these have originated from people's collections with the story of having been found at/on Civil War battlefields, encampments, and being a projectile.

We'll be chasing this puzzle (True ID) for years, until someone finds one in its actual environment (Use).

Just the humble and uneducated opinion of a military history buff.
