Daddy's coins found at schoolyard
Hello everyone!
I had to work yesterday, so I got up extra early and hit two elementary schoolyard that are close to work before going in. Plus, it was 95 degrees here yesterday, so I beat the heat also.
I think this was one of my best days ever not for monetary value but for the amount of finds in all catagories. I found $13.62 face value, 148 coins and a motherload of jewelry and several keeper coins as you will read and see below. All this in 3-1/2 hours of swinging.
The first school was loaded, the best this year for me. It must not have been searched in several years as there was tons of stuff around every play structure and swingset. There are a lot of TH'ers around so I couldn't believe it. At this school I dug a nice Sterling ring, a sterling earring, a Sterling Charm bracelet filled with 11 charms, a really nice keychain, and a lot of other trinket jewelry.
The second school is where the story gets interesting. There was not as much stuff here, more like normal, a hit here and there. I did find a Sterling pendant here and dug a Dr. Suess X-Mas ornament out by the soccer field. At first I thought it was a huge Mexican Silver pendant, but when I cleaned it up a bit I saw it was the ornament they were selling at McDonalds. Here's the fun part. In front of the slide, I dug two wheatbacks that were totally clean, no tarnish or stains from the woodchips. Then beside the slide, out pops a Merc dime, again very clean. Working my way around, another wheat and another Merc. Now I am thinking, some kid got into Daddy's coin collection and I am finding them. So I start dreaming... hope he had some big coins, silver dollars..etc. At the back of the slide, bam, out pops a Liberty Walking half. I couldn't believe it. 1 inch down in the woodchips, how could someone not see this on the ground when it was lost? So my brain starts really dreaming, maybe Daddy had some gold coins too. Then I dig this huge 1780 Gold Coin. I was floored and actually had to sit down. Well, as I looked at it, it was obviously a replica, but that was sure fun. I was in MD'ing heaven yesterday.
Here's some pics of my fun day finds!
