Relic Hunting
I came across a piece of which I am guessing was part of a adze. It is hard to tell when you just have a chip. It is very smooth and has distinct edge to it. I would love to know what it was. I will post pick and maybe someone familiar with the shape and angles of objects could help me assume if possible. It amazes me how perfect they could shape objects! The last pic is the edge which if you continue could assume the width.

Thanks for any feed back

Not really enough for me to know maybe somebody else can tell you. What type of stone is it?

I doubt it is anything to talk about. It seems as if it cracked off one day back when ever. Figured I'd share as you know the common people really don't care to see it.

Someone spent so much time even on this shard area that broke off, to polish it to this shape. Humbled to come across it that's all. Can't imagine holding the full what's it yet. Clearly a piece of some stone manipulated.

Well if it is flint it could be used for hard labor, if it is slate or sandstone it would of been used for something else like a pendant that is the reason I asked about the type of stone it is. Id be able to give a better guess for you.

My first thought was maybe a piece of a broken gorget or pendant.

That is my thought too.

Your hunting in the right area Glenn. Maybe you will find more of it later. Good luck.

I think you called it right bro. Broken adze. Here is one I found years ago. It's got a thin bit like yours.

Nice find. I see your profile says you are on that other coast. I guess some tools were and are universal.

I believe it is a form of granite

Looks too thin to be a ax or celt or adze. Im thinking pendant

I agree.. not a tool.

I think it will be one of those study pieces. You know one of those that when somebody comes to look at your collection you pick it up and say.........so what do you think this use to be? Its always fun to hear all of the thoughts on a piece like that.

Any way we can get a few more angles on this piece? Is it the same thickness all over? If just the "bit" is thin, and tapers up thicker, I call tool. If it is the same thickness all over, the guys are probably right.

I believe if you continue the angle from the top area it would continue similar to the line I have drawn. It is only smoothed on the one side and part of the tip other side. The rest is broken of. It really is just a small piece.

Thanks for looking.

That is a smaller piece than I thought for. I'd hunt about a 10 foot circle around where you found that piece, and hunt it hard. Any lithic like that, I'd gather it and take it home. Try to get another piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for the tip. I will return there for sure.

Glenn, if it is granite I would imagine it is part of a tool. It would be awfully hard to drill.
Here in Ks. most drilled artifacts are from catlanite or kansas pipestone.
