Darn Cattle

When they make up their mind cattle can just about destroy anything to get what they want as is what happened to my blind setup
for bow hunting this year. They broke the cattle guard & fence railings so had to do a total rebuild to hopefully make it cattle proof.
While doing the rebuild not far away a pack of wolves started to howl ... maybe they will take down a cow or two ....
One buck I named 2 split is returning to the blind, hopefully he will still be there in September.....

Correction - Rebuild was on August 07 not on August 08, my typo error ....

I have not seen the cattle that visit my site now and then.
I see evidence though.

Blind is on a platform so they have not bothered it.
I freed up the old platform and frame for the fabric blind last visit. Need to relocate it still.

releventchair excellent setup and build you have there. Looks like a great view of the field and you are well hidden.
Here we do not have the good fortune to set up on any fields as they are on private lands. Our biggest asset is that most
other hunters like to drive instead of walk so we walk or quad in from roads from 300 to 500 yards and set up for these free range
bush bucks. So far so good as no one has found our blinds..

I park within 20 yards of the blind and use a wheelchair up the ramp.

Here's one of the cuts through the alders that is productive. 245 yards to just past the farthest alder trunks on the swamp edge that appear dark.

a great support team and koodos to them also. At 245 yards what caliber rifle do you shoot? How many deer are you allowed there in a season?, here we can take one Mule deer buck and one Whitetail buck. Doe's here are on a draw system. From your last picture with the snow falling looks like your hunting prime rut in November.......

I hunt solo usually.
We have a disabled hunt mid Oct. I consider my start. Despite temps.
Hunts with snow are a bonus as I dislike wheels and handrails in it. Oh I would if I had to. And sometimes do just for the sake of doing.

We have a variety of tags and licenses. Antler point restrictions vary also.
Don't quote me but I think 10 standalone doe tags are available in my area.

I opt for a combo that allows one buck and one doe. Or two doe. Or two bucks with higher antler point restrictions on the second one.
I been going eight points or better a while. Saves a lot of work sometimes.
So does more patience about where they lay for recoveries.

I share venison depending on who wants any. One old Indian I didn't hand any last year I have quite a bit in the past. He didn't call.
a couple uncles received some. Not sure who else last year.
I'm good with just one deer for myself.
Time I cut it up and package it the enthusiasm starts to wane about another one.

A long fan of the .270 ; the past decade or more has been with a 25-06. This particular one is quite heavy. And rests on a window ledge as solid as could be desired.
The shooting stick in the picture wasn't used last year. But has seen a variety of different hunting sites and deer over time.

I remember back in the day when Jack O'conner wrote about the Winchester Model 70 270 and that's the reason I bought one then. Since then I went
to a bit larger caliber the 284 in a 7mm Rem Mag mainly for Moose. Have not used my rifles for hunting for many years now just for target shooting etc.
as I use mainly a crossbow the Tenpoint Havoc RS440. Like yourself we also cut up and make our own burger.
With hunting season opening here on September 1st for bow for any size buck I'm hoping lady luck will be with us to put some deer venison in the freezer.
One buck that has been showing up I named 2 Split (shown in attached picture) I'm keeping my fingers crossed he will continue to do so...

I've 3 Excalibur crossbows.
Haven't used on on the property yet. I prefer to anchor deer with the swamp. Oh I've forgotten a couple times not to.

I hope you both do well! I miss deer hunting quite a bit. My back is so far gone I can’t sit in the woods very long without pain. I need a blind with an easy chair but have never made one. I have lots of good memories though.👍🏻
