Day# 18 "Brace yourself" Motherlode w/pix
Hi Everyone,
Got extremely lucky today. Took a ride to one of my "not too traveled" routes to check a bank that I was lucky to score some full rolls of 40%ers back in February. Had been there a few times since, but never got anything more. It's a good location because the bank stands alone on a back road and is surrounded with large, old neighborhoods. I figure all those homes must use the bank as it's the only one in the area. When I walked in, the teller I usually talk to said, "Your ears must have been burning, I was just going to call you." She said that she had just gotten in $90 in customer wrapped halves and "I think they are old ones". She got them out of her drawer and opened one for me to look at. I couldn't believe it when out came the silver and I could tell by the edges they were all 90%silver. When I put them in my pockets, I just knew they were all silver because of the weight. We chatted for a while and she seemed very happy that I came in today. When I got into my car and started looking through them my jaw dropped to the steering wheel. Every roll was filled with Walking Liberty and Ben Franklin halves, and....one 1898-S Barber half. Not a kennedy in the bunch.
When I got home and sorted them out, here is what I got.

Also many of the coins are in excellent condition. The total count is (1) Barber, (74) Walkers and (105) Franklins. TOTAL 180 90%ers. I looked up the 1898-S Barber in the coin book and it lists for $27.50 in G-4 grade. Mine is only "about good". All in all, most of these coins are worth more numismatically then the silver weight and are well worth keeping. My daughter took the photos and I hope they add encouragement to everyone. Even in these slump times there will always be silver out there to find. We just have to be patient and keep at it. Just when you think you are at an all time low finding silver halves.....Up jumps the motherlode! Rich, I just knew there had to be one out there. I could almost feel it. I saw JD-GA also posted a motherlode. I think the "slump" may be over. Good luck out there, everyone.
