Went back to the 1729 farmhouse for round 2 and it didn't disappoint.found a little of every thing.i was thrilled to get the tap in whole condition.a nice brass buckle was found and a old lead pendant with initials on it,very thick.the loop with the hook on the end is very unusual.any ideals?did find a few coins but this time more copper.the liberty cap cent is very thick and i could see some letters on the edge.the little silver coin is odd,has double F's with crown on top and on the other side has schilling courant with some other words dated 1804,the other copper is a 1811 or 1814.did find a few button and here are the best ones today, early naval and a small one with what looks like a man standing.i was very happy with these finds today.

Well, well, congrats on even a better day, I think the naval button looks awfully similar to an officer's button of the French Continental Navy (Rev War), if so, that is a super find. Corrected my earlier statement it is a French button of the French Continental Navy(American Rev War button!!!!). There is a photo of an identical one in Don Troiani's book "Military Buttons of the American Revolution".

The FF is a German coin from the duchy of Mecklenberg/Scherwin, congrats on getting a nice silver coin/token. (Thanks Ex Libris for narrowing down the ID)

The buckle is a knee type of the same period, mid to late 1700s and the Large Cent is probably 1794 or 1795, so just on those items alone you did better than your first trip........

Not sure of the lead initialed item nor about the smaller button you posted, but both very interesting.

Don

Great finds! :o

I hope someone can ID the silver british button for you.

And I can't wait to see your next post.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Id say the FF is the F.....Fusiliers, what the F.... is I do not know.

Now that is nice. Strange on the thickness variation picture, but I guess back in the late 1700's that might have been the norm. What do you think? Never saw one like that, but then again not too many of those posted. Nice job again and congrats big time. jgas

The checkerboard pattern button is circa 1750. You got one heck of a spot there bud! The British button is FANTASTIC. WTG.......Hogge

You had one great day of hunting.
There's so many great finds

Nice finds. I love those old farms.

I think most of us that do this have thoughts racing through our heads of times past as we hunt, who lost this stuff, how did they live.

wow very nice finds.... I can only hope for a day like that. I can't wait to see it cleaned up. make sure you post the pictures when your done..

Happy Hunting

Twin Digger.

Thats some great finds love the coppers, the military buttons awesome all I can find are plain ones. Keep hunten that site theres alot more goodies waiting for you there! HH!!

Again congrats on finding a French Officer's Rev War button, an 1804 Silver shilling courant, the old buttons, the most likely 1794/95 Large Cent and the 1811 or 1814 Large Cent, combine just those items with your previous post and you have had one of the best one two punches of a hunt I have seen in quite awhile.

Still would like to be able to come up with some info on the cuffsized button, the one with the man standing on it. If possible is there any backmarks at all that you can make out? Is it possible to show a pic of the button a tad bigger or at minimum a photo of the backside?

I did learn something from your post in that I would have sworn that the silver coin had to be a button, just was not expecting any coin to ever have script letters (FF)on it, so glad you found it, since now I know they do exist. Just not 100% certain of country of origin, I posted in my first reply possible from Denmark, but have since been told it is a German coin. Thanks Ex Libris!!!

Don

You amaze me more and more. I didn't think you could top your previous post but it seems I was mistaken. Liberty Cap thicky, French officers button Continental , Silver German coin. Buckle. Each and every one of them makes the banner in my book. Congratulations.
Chris

Don,here's a pic of the front and back of button.while cleaning other small pieces from this hunt i was surprise to find this little gem mixed in,portrait of a gentleman craved in a piece of stone or onyx.thanks for the id on the rev war french officer's button.
