This has got to have been one of the toughest days in years. Dad was allowed out to play & we did 5 hours (10 man hours effort) in a driving hailstone storm. It hailed on & off all day with chilling winds that nearly blow us over.

(for those that don't know Dad joined my hobbie about 10 years ago & everything he finds I keep) GREAT TEAM

Also I post every outing however bad it is, & this one was one of the worst in years.

But theres a lot of land to cover, so we will keep plodding on until the harvest in Aug.

Fossil shell
New 1 pence
2 Scrappy roman coins
Bag Seal
Musket Ball
Key hole.

wow, that's a great dad. neat finds too. Hail storm? That's dedication!

I applaud and completely understand your hunting in the hail. Those relics need to get out of the dirt. Hard to believe your finds today are amongst your worst. I think I need to swing my machine in the UK. Wish my father was spry enough to dig with me. Sounds like you and your dad have it all figured out. Much luck!!

Cheers,

you call that a bad day ? my last outing I had to chip ice off the ground to get at it and I got all modern trash for my efforts. we just got another 3-4 inches of snow last night so it will be awhile before I get out again.

thanks for sharing it helps break up the cabin fever, best regards.

Still a good day in my book!!
What is the PP piece?

Its a Lead Bag seal probably sealed a bag of Phosphates for the fields.

I have 3 grades of Roman Coins;
'Scrappy' (most call them 'Grots') - Little or no detail - I stick them in a jar
'OK' - Fair amount of detail - Put in a roman pottery bowl & had out to kids when I do displays
'Album' - Good detail with enough to fully ID.

Over the years I have had no album coins from this field. Its very heavy clay & had lots of chemicals from the farmers.
