Spent 3 hours (6 man hours) finding hardly a thing other than a mystery lead-alloy cap with a horse design on it, scrappy roman coin, & a buckle.
Then towards the last 1/2 hour Cru'Dad dug a 12" deep large iron target which is spear like in shape.
I'm not going to get too excited as it seems in to good a condition to be very old. However might be a 17th Century Civil War period pike end?? or a Victorian railing spike??
I will be recording it soon with the PAS to get a full ID, if possible.
If it is a weapon piece then it would be our first.
Could make all those thousands of horse shoes & plough bits worth digging over the years!
UPDATE;
I showed a Civil War expert today the blade thingy. He needs to look into it a bit more but his first thought was that is not Civil War but likely early Victorian. Which makes sense with the state of preservation. Possibly a Cavalry lance? I have recorded it elsewhere but the results of that may take some months. So good news is that it is the first piece of weaponry & not a random farm piece or railing (which he discounted)
