Dad went and did a short hunt without me today. He done very well!

A very rare 1667 1/2 penny token, so rare the book has no price indication as none have been recorded sold & you won't find it on the internet.

Its a token of Francis Seagre of the Royal Oak Pub (1667) in Woburn, Buckinghamshire. :)

Plus most of a late 15th century purse bar, a new type for us with nice primitive zoomorphic heads. :)

A scrappy & bag seal.

UPDATED;

Email from a friend (researcher & keen collector, soon to publish a book);

Excellent find – it was Woburn in Beds in the 17th century (W107) – definitely rare.
The pub is still there.
I don’t have one – if he ever wants to part with it, happy to hear

Congratulations on the token!
I didn't know that tokens even existed back them.
Live and learn.

Brass Farthings & halfpenny's started in about 1650 (where the expression 'its not worth a brass farthing' came from)

Congrats to your dad! That token is truly a phenomenal find!

As you say, it is listed— but unvalued— in Michael Dickinson's Seventeenth Century Tokens of the British Isles. The significance of the lack of a stated value becomes apparent from the following comment by Dickinson in his introduction to the book:

"Prices are given where my researches have suggested that there is a fair chance of a collector obtaining the specimen in his or her lifetime!"

Enough said. :wink:

Exactly, I will post a response from my token researcher soon.

Wow! Just wow!

We need to work out a TH's exchange program! You can come over here and get some of my gold and you can show me where to find something older than our country. I wonder why no one has mentioned a banner, yet? Seems to me that something that rare would be a shoo-in.

Its not quite a banner find in my opinion. If it were in better condition I might agree.

I say that if it's identifiable, it should qualify. But then again, I'm new here, so not familiar with the criteria, yet. A once in a lifetime find like that deserves more than a few "atta-boys".

Thanks for the kind words, there is no particular criteria other than members recommending it to the mods. Don't worry there will be better to follow soon. :wink:

something so rare that there isn't even a price on it and no one is expected to find one in thier lifetime...hmmmmm....let me think.........BANNER :3some:

Re: Day 5 - R*pe Field......1667 PUB TOKEN!

Something better than that!? Oh my, oh my. If that's the case, warn me first so I can be sure to have my heart pills handy.

Probably not better in terms of rarity but in terms of sexiness, ie nice looking Roman Denarius or another Gold coin etc..

wow, she`s an oldie!
good job :thumbsup:

Re: Day 5 - R*pe Field......1667 PUB TOKEN!

Wait a minute, first this one, now the possibility of Romans or gold coins, too? I'd have to make a bid on that piece of ground and then take everything down about thirty feet and run my coil over everything bigger than a quarter of an inch. That's just amazing. Can you give some history of the site without compromising it's location? Don't want to go off-topic here, but I've been following the unbelievable finds you've been making and was wondering about the laws there. From what I've read, everything over three hundred years old there has to be turned over to a museum and then they decide if they want it or if you can have it. Now this is only from the few articles I've been able to find about your country, but is it different for someone who lives there vs a tourist on a guided hunt? Only curious on that aspect of it, but look forward to your upcoming posts.
