Hunted the hey field again after work today.
First few sweeps into the old area near the well, I get a 30-ish VDI (I don't remember the exact #)
Its only a few inches down so I pop a plug and check it. In the plug, OK shave the plug a little and the signal is in the hole.
man it must be small ;D
Then I see a silvery rim. No, it can't be! My oldest silver yet :o
1852 Three cent piece

I hurried inside to put it on my desk, did not want to walk around with it and lose it.
Hunting till sunset I also found an 1859 injun head penny , first year issue!

Yet another large cent, looks like a 1834 matron head (yes, I hit it with the shovel ::))

and a 1944 wheat penny ::)
plus some unknown bits.

The totals for this field will be going into best finds,
when I am done with hunting it.
Its a tough call, should I replace the large cent in my avatar with the silver 3 center?
I am trying to decide which is a better find ???
HH,
Donny

My vote is for the 3 cent silver for the avatar.

I've dug many LC's but never one of those...maybe I'll get one before my first Two Decades of digging expire. (Oh man, I've only got 4 1/2 years left to find one!)

Congratulations on a great hunt.

Oh man, I gotta start digging all those midrange VDI's. Can I ask what program you're running on the DFX?
Very nice coins!

If its positive in a field like this, You dig it ;D
I am using a custom program very close to one of the programs covered in the book "Understanding Whites DFX"
It is a mixed mode/VCO program (with the Preamp gain up as high as it will go of coarse)
The discrimination accepts everything but big iron, but you can still hear the iron because its mixed mode. It just sounds different.
I use it on the XLT as well, If you don't mind the bumble bee sound buzzing in your ear, it is a great field program for depth.

HH,
Donny

Thanks Donny!
I've recently tried a MM program in my front yard and yes, it really takes some getting used to. Reminds me of when the computer and the mothership finally start communicating in "Close encounters of a third kind"

Where did you say that field was? Those are some awesome finds!

I've only held one of those silver 3-center's in my hand once. . . when I was 12.
To find one of those is really special. . . nice
