Not much today (3.5 hours on my own).

Late Medieval pastery jigger wheel.
2 scrappies
and bits....

GOOD NEWS - today was the first dry day in awhile & they are taking the Wheat in as I type.
BAD NEWS - I have to go to my Sister's Wedding tomorrow instead of detecting.

Ouch on those "scrappies". The horse's head, I have found one very (make that somewhat) similar, broken in pieces in a plowed field that was the site of a late 1700's to early 1800's homestead.

Nice stuff as always, Crusader. What is the hallmarked item in the left of your photo?

Enjoy the wedding.

Don't you hate interruptions to your hobby, but sisters come first sometimes huh? In the first pix, what is that object with the stamped impressions on it? Would like to see more of it. Great digs....

BAD NEWS - I have to go to my Sister's Wedding tomorrow instead of detecting.

Well, darn!! :'(
You don't have to tell me how addicting this hobby is. ;D I know the feeling...I'm always trying to find a way to go detecting even when other priorities hit me.
How about a real early morning hunt for a couple hours?

Good luck!!

HEY!!! I actually know what one of your
finds are...The "jigger wheel"!
Good luck tomorrow! I know it's going to be
getting to you about mid ceremony!

I sensed disappointment in your finds ... still good finds I see ! I'm ALWAYS stunned at the ancient coins and relics you and Crusader Dad have found ! Just look up at that Celtic gold stater on the banner

Might see you hunting in a tux tomorrow !

HH !

Funny thing is, someone said it would rain tomorrow. I said I didn't care as I was at my Sister Wedding ::)

Nice bunch of finds Crusader! I also found a horse head this week and a crown. What is the piece far left with all the hallmarks? Ceramics? HH, Mike

Crusader, your sisters wedding is far more important than bit's of metal. You need to realize metal is cold people are not. Although this hobby is fascinating and some times rewarding, family is a million times more important.

Regards Robert.

I always enjoy your finds. . . no matter how "scrappy" they may be :)

Was it common to hallmark pewter back then? I thought that was
done with just silver & gold (I know little about such things)

Take care,
watercolor

its not a hallmark as such, just a makers mark.

id love to have one of your bad days!!

i did find about a tenners worth of lead the other day all in one corner of the second field im trying! most of it was in large clumps.
does this just mean that the farmer has had a large fire? or could this be one of the areas to concentrate on?

thanks shaun

If they are very large pieces, its probably modern stuff. The areas you want will have smaller & medium pieces of very white lead.

Although as you say, good to have money for rubbish lead then chuck it!

Some very nice finds - too bad about your sisters wedding though  Have you considered popping out the back of the church with your detector whilst the priest is pre-occupied ;D ;D
