I went deeper in the woods at a civil war era site.....in the picture you can see some facade masonry of a old house, the house was torn down 15-20 years ago...I believe the general area was spread around pretty good, I can still see mounds left from the bulldozer, in the picture is a very large Magnola tree, actually there are two very large Magnola trees and non native English Ivy in between .....that seems to be untouched...I have found a few civil war era things here before, but found very little here on saturday. This is my first attempt at woods hunting, this spot is urban and seems forgotten, I believe there is more here........any thoughts on how to hunt this area? Ivy is a pain!!!!!

I would start off by getting some idea of the layout of the property, when it was still standing. Then I would move to the most traffic areas of the property. I would use a large sheet of plywood maybe 4' x 4' ( Four Feet by Four Feet ) with a hole big enough to dig through in it. Place on top of the weeds and detect over the plywood as you stand on it. Move the hole over a target you find and dig. Keep in mind you will lose some depth. You could also bring a gas powered weedeater. You can use rope or string to mark of sections to clear at a time. Also check near any man made or natural treasure markers you may see. Like large old trees, or piled rocks. That kind of area is cache territory. Let us know the results.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Cool tips... Man, I love this place!

Great picture. Makes me want to fire up the detector right now and search around my living room. Let us know how you make out there.

Great looking place for sure!
