Depth and performance question

Wow. This really does deserve to be sticky'd somewhere for other newbies. The crazy thing is I guess we're all sort of newbies because it's a new machine. I'm floored by your understanding of this machine and ability to communicate.

So in response to the suggestions.... I printed and read the manual before I received it but I definitely need to go over it again...and again. I will start with a review of mode descriptions. I'm also going to print your post. For now, I'll pick a couple of modes to use and stick with them, only making small adjustments. One thing you noted that I was doing wrong is the noise cancel. I'll do that with the coil pointed in the air now. I'll also do my test again using some of the parameters you (and others) have suggested. Thanks again!

some people are impressive...and some people are easily impressed....depends on their nature and how they are able to perceive their environment. situational awareness can guard you from harm or it can lead you into harm....all depends how one can perceive their surrounds and process the data set before them....that is how magic works.
for some, having a machine that can see through dirt ,is magic. for others its science. regardless it all comes down to keepers or trash... it does not mater what tool you use or how its
telemetry impresses.
example: guy walk into a bar and says look what I found with my detector as he holds up a bag of loot....guy behind the bar says where did you find it. guy says in the park across the street. guy behind the bar takes out a baseball bat, hits the guy on the head and takes his loot.
the guy understands how the bat works and is successful at reading his environment. the guy on the floor with a bump on his head and no loot....not so much...

Don't know what you want to say :icon_scratch:, but he was impressed, because other detectors like Gmaxx, Goldmax or Fisher Goldbug weren't able to detect the gold coin in this depth, only XP Deus. So always try max sensitivity, if you have false signals do GB and Noise Cancel, only if that doesn't work lower the sensitivity, otherwise you give away valuable depth.

depth is only valuable if you can identify the target clearly...who digs 12" holes for pull tabs? the deeper you go the less likely you will
be able to identify your target. non of the machines you listed including the equinox can positively 100% guarantee you will find what is detect by the detector at 12" depth in virgin ground. not to mention any targets masked by trash.even if you use a deep
penetrating detector.
I think maybe I am confused, what is it you are trying to say?

Vferrari,
Clear, concise and very helpful as usual.
I’m waiting on the book.

Everyone who knows what they are doing does! I don't give a rat's behind how "clean" a target hit is if its coming in from max depth!

Sorry to hear that. You just keep on trying. It will get better for you with practice.

Vferrari. That was a very good post. Now I have reference if needed.

V, another very clear and concise post that helps make things a little to a lot clearer. I totally understand the "I read it already and may have to read it a dozen times for things to sink in." Don't want to be this way and used to not be this way but it happens sometimes whether we want it or not. Guys like me benefit from others in their struggles as many step up in an effort to help. it can be very frustrating but it is what it is. Just don't quit or give up, that is the easy way out. DL

Youre not funny and your posts border on the trollish.

Agreed. It's not difficult to understand why a person would want to explore Max depth every now and then. In every forum there are contrarians that will find a way into posts to quibble over something absurd. In every forum there are green dots that absorb and recite technical information but do not actually detect much at all, living in forums day and night stalking for some slight opportunity to come in to topics and give some off white version of something someone has said, or some sophomoric exception, out of boredom, just to get a rise. Either way, it becomes annoying quickly and ruins the experience.

Read anything and everything vfarrari posts. The man knows what he is talking about. I learn something from him everytime he posts something. My only advice is to run factory settings the 1st 25 hours before you start experimenting with GB, speed, discrimination, iron bias and all the things everyone else says. Don't try to out smart the detector. People a lot smarter than us designed and tested it.

I have about 120 - 130 hours on mine and I still for the most part use factory settings. I adjust sensitivity according to noise and usually one number below but where I hunt I can run sensitivity at 25 if I want but usually around 20 -21

I am working on tone id now in 50 tones.. I hated park 2 at 1st but I like if now and find little difference between park 1 and park 2. I am by far and expert but I have found over 200 in clad in 6 weeks. I been letting the detector teach me along with people like vfarrari and others
