Been a little while since I've been around. Got moved to the night shift at work and that has really hindered my prospecting and I've been on vacation the last couple of weeks. Well yesterday I got an email from Discovery Channel about when the teaser/trailers will be airing for the show I will be on called "Devils Canyon". First one is on May 17th during the airing of "The Last Alaskans". I am nervous like you wouldnt believe. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. 6 weeks completely alone in the British Columbia bush, surviving and mining gold. No film crew, just me, filming myself the entire time. You get me, in the raw struggling like I have never done before.

But how did "The Goose" react............(you should have seen the people in the park......LOL!)

Everyone w

Hey did you see any edible mushrooms like golden chanterelles or Porcini "Boletus edulis" out there?

I would have brought my bazooka, the big one not some mini!

There was fungus everywhere but none that was edible. I think there was one I could have eaten that grew real big on the side of trees, but I wasnt taking any chances. The Bazooka is illegal in Canada, any stream sluice or dredge. The only thing you can use up there is a high banker with a intake line no bigger that "1.5. Then you have to 3 meters away from water on a sand bar and 10 meters away from the water line if you are on a bank IIRC.

This fall we will have get together near the Bear den and I will teach you about the mushrooms in that area that are edible and not.

yeah dont worry about the mother load trolls bring you down, that troll has lost the spirit lol-

Ive seen alot of Goose in youtube videos working hard and living the dream- before you even had the show:)

I liked the explanations of panning and sampling that the show did, nice graphics- you dont get much of that on the other shows, I can relate more to this show- your small miner spirit is alot like all of ours.

ha ha since everyone has a opinion I would have brought my bazooka, the big one not some mini! empty it into the super sluice and work it! haha and wetsuit with no weights and used river rocks when get there if needed for snipe:) Just me but I think fire is over-rated, my blood runs hot and the wet suit is always cozy if needed lol! Everyone would have seen my bazooka working it and then there would be nowhere to get one ha ha ha, I like the "goose" on the gold pan, that brought me right back to tnet where you first popped up:)

you cant use a sluice in B.C. unless your on a claim and with a pump.

I myself am interested in the status of the land the show was using.

Nice to see you posting a T. Todd

Im a deal on that!

Thank you for your kindness in taking us along for the journey. I also ask all members to respect each other and enjoy the show. How fun for you!

Finally got a chance to watch the show.
AWESOME!!!!
looking forward to next week. Good for you for taking the opportunity to do the show. Wow, six weeks is a damn long time to be alone in the wilderness. I've done a few 3-5 day backpacking trips by my self when I was younger, and that was way too long to be alone, can't imagine six weeks. Like you said every sound sets you on edge. My hat is off to you.

Glad you enjoyed the show. I am hoping they keep up the intensity. For me it was a completely foreign environment. I wasnt used to the the sounds that were coming through there and my biggest fear is bears. I deal with them hear at home when I go out. But the bears up there are fricken huge. I want to sit back and tell everyone whats, coming but I cant....its killin me! LOL!

If the bears would just leave my camps alone I would not mind them so much but, they are curious about all things where they roam. It is unsettling to look up and be looking into a bears eyes even if they are 15' away. Yes, I could do without the bears!. Then when you accidentally camp in their "grocery store" aka - blackberry country, well it is just too uncomfortable to stay there. I was thinking of bringing in some solar powered motion sensing lights as that would alert me at night of visitors around camp. Neat adventure you had there!...................63bkpkr

Seeing the gold that was teased throughout the first episode (and the giant nugget!), I could see myself doing something like this...but I don't think I would've had the cojones to strip down and swim to the other side. I'm guessing the water wasn't too much above freezing! Too many things could go wrong -- but giant props to you!

Sluice boxes are prohibited? Holy cow, trying to find any gold with just a shovel and a pan would be incredibly frustrating...

You can't snipe if your not on a claim either no digging out cracks with anything but your fingers I guess. If gold like that is coming out of over burden and bottom layers imagine if you could actually snipe and break open crevices I would be using twigs I guess. When they say sluices are allowed on claims it refers to power sluicing.

Boyce, were you restricted in the tools u were allowed to bring.... or the type of prospecting /mining ? were you prohibited in anyway ?

I like that fact that the show focuses on "small scale mining". The other gold shows are lame because of obvious reasons, but the fact that it's all VERY large scale mining I can not relate at all. When I see a guy digging a test hole in a gravel bar then panning it down with the super sluice, I'm in!

Great show goose! Wish I would have seen a bazooka strapped to your pack though lol.. and can't wait for the next episode

One rule and one rule only. "You can bring anything you want, you just have to be able to carry it in". But I did have to abide by all of the BC mining/prospecting laws as well as the hunting regs.

Just wondering how far you and the camera crew had to hike in to the canyon on foot ?

GG~

GG~

The camera crew only followed me up to the lip of the canyon and then I went on from there alone. The over all hike in was just over 15k if I remember right. From where they left left me at the top to my camp was about 5ish.

15k with a 125lb pack? Please tell me you only had to carry that the last 5
