Been a little while since I've been around. Got moved to the night shift at work and that has really hindered my prospecting and I've been on vacation the last couple of weeks. Well yesterday I got an email from Discovery Channel about when the teaser/trailers will be airing for the show I will be on called "Devils Canyon". First one is on May 17th during the airing of "The Last Alaskans". I am nervous like you wouldnt believe. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. 6 weeks completely alone in the British Columbia bush, surviving and mining gold. No film crew, just me, filming myself the entire time. You get me, in the raw struggling like I have never done before.

But how did "The Goose" react............(you should have seen the people in the park......LOL!)

I got no help. Zero, none, nada. Old Marine Corps. teaching.......Dont stop, ignore pain, keep moving. I went as far as I could Until I had to give my back a break. And even at stop points they wouldnt talk to me and stayed back. When I grabbed my gear to move again, they would pick up and start following me. Sometimes they would move ahead of me to get shots looking back at me or film as I was moving past them.

All of these camera guys were hardcore outdoors men. Before we went into the bush I had a chance to have some beers with them. They work for documentary filmmakers, Naked and afraid, survivor, Nat Geo etc. They do some hard core stuff. The critical care guy that came along has a resume about 5 miles long of the stuff he's done. Most of them spend more time out of the US in remote locations, than they do at home. Their passports all had extra pages in them to accommodate the amount of stamps in them.

Wow. much respect just for the hike in and out then, let alone the 6 weeks.

Do you know how much elevation change was in that 15k?

I thought it was smart of you to pack more food and less gear. If your starving you won't be mining and if the gold is that good then all you need is a pan anyway😎

So, in season 2...

(I want a writers credit).

You guys claim the ground and bring in the Big Guns. Well a BGT Prospector anyway. Or high banker. Maybe a buddy. ...

BGT= Illegal in Canada

High banker is the only way to go and it cant have an intake line bigger than "1.5

Are all hand tools allowed, like crevice tools, etc.? What about PVC suckers?

Crevice tools are allowed on your claim but no where else

From the link:

The BC Government Wants You To Mine Gold.
The laws, fees and inspectors in BC are generally very friendly towards individuals and small operations.
The Ministry knows that you and your buddy working a placer claim aren't likely to add a lot to the wealth of the province, but you may discover a large, rich deposit that does.

Hmmm... Well, how are you supposed to discover a "large, rich deposit," in "very friendly" British Columbia, if you can't use effective tools to reach said deposits?

There was NO possible way I could have done what you guys did hauling that kind of weight in on your back..........EVEN in my best years! You have my respect for just being able to do just that! SALUTE!

The camera crew only followed me up to the lip of the canyon and then I went on from there alone. The over all hike in was just over 15k if I remember right. From where they left left me at the top to my camp was about 5ish.

Wow that is some hike even without 125 lbs of gear and even more so without a trail. :notworthy:
How long did it take you? and how did you find your way? GPS, compass, dead reckoning, topo maps?

GG~

I want to go into a lot of detail on this but I dont know what will be shown in future episodes . I can say I ran off my sense of direction, maps I had seen, the sun and using landmarks, no joke. This might be something I can cover after the series.

125 lbs, UGH! When I was fit I carried in 115 lb pack, the being fit part makes all the difference! 125 if I was fit and felt it was worth it, OK! I suspect he felt it was worth it, one of those trips to remember for the rest of ones life!..................63bkpkr

I wasn't there, nor was anyone else that posts on Tnet,
Therefore only Goose can say what did or did not happen for real.
I stand by my first reply on post #21.

Nice show so far. Looks to be a very challenging adventure! Are you allowed to at least say the juice was worth the squeeze?

Unfortunately I cant talk about any of that just yet.

Watched Ep1 last night.
Wow.
Can't wait for Ep2.
Must have been quite the life experience out there in the cold and dark all alone.....except for the bears.......
Can't wait to see how much gold you bring out at the end of the season.
The six weeks, is that all the summer there is up there, or is it just the time that the producers of the show decided on?
Still, couldn't imagine staying there for longer than that.

I can. Oh yea, it was worth it. Just the icing of being a TNet celebrity was worth every single moment.

I keep missing it. Can anyone give the the night it is on and who is hosting it? Sounds good.
