Been a little while since I've been around. Got moved to the night shift at work and that has really hindered my prospecting and I've been on vacation the last couple of weeks. Well yesterday I got an email from Discovery Channel about when the teaser/trailers will be airing for the show I will be on called "Devils Canyon". First one is on May 17th during the airing of "The Last Alaskans". I am nervous like you wouldnt believe. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. 6 weeks completely alone in the British Columbia bush, surviving and mining gold. No film crew, just me, filming myself the entire time. You get me, in the raw struggling like I have never done before.

But how did "The Goose" react............(you should have seen the people in the park......LOL!)

Just seen the first episode debut last night here on Discovery Canada, and first off i'll say that I enjoyed it. (im not a hater!!!) Episode 2 won't be on until next week so can't comment on that.

Couple observations (from a local to the area):
- it seems that you guys are just located on various creeks in the Cariboo/Barkerville goldfields, and while the name Devil's Canyon sounds cool for TV, you're not actually "in" Devil's Canyon, as Devil's Canyon has a paved highway running through it, is pretty short, and it has nary a real creek running through it (more like a pond and a ditch in real life). You guys actually on Cottonwood or Willow Rivers? Antler?
- some of the scenery shots show roads, old placer cuts and logging cut blocks. So not as remote as they make it out to be, but even with those items I mention, I still think the survival aspect is still pretty hardcore
- did you guys concentrate a bunch of pans down to get those showings? hard to believe Ben got that on first pan on top gravels...
- the "widow-maker" trees with super-shallow roots is a real deal that spooks the crap outta me out there too. I'm continually finding new deadfall
- sorry Bryce, I laughed at the crappy firewood scene, only because I totally agree with you on it burning like s**t compared to other locales
- the bears are too real out there. some areas they are everywhere. luckily, they are pretty shy and spook easily. lots of other feed out there for them (berries, grubs, etc)

Good on you for doing this, I would love to do the same!!!

Glad you enjoyed the show!

Network probably gave it a catchy name because the "Ben, Boyce and John gold mining show" probably doesnt sound as good.
Right now I cant comment on locations. I am hoping I can at a later date.
I dont know about Ben's location, but stuff I was finding was the craziest gold I had ever seen.
The trees......I hated them. Keep watching the show.
The wood out there is ridiculous. Most of the time it would just smolder.
I wasnt worried about the black bears, I deal with them in my home spots. It was the Grizzlies/Moose/Cougars and Wolves that were always in the back of my mind.

I haven't watched it, but can tell you the premise of the show was mine, and you can find it in a thread here on Tnet "If you could, Would you?" I pitched the idea to History Channel... Well, Bad Idea I guess.

Ain't nothing there free for sure. Lots of hard back breaking work and what a place for a dredge-any dredge-but I know none allowed. I was surprised to even see that tiny hibanker, special permit?? Anyhow great show and one tough go-John

I remember this! I think you should get some type of royalties from Discover channel. 🤑

That will never happen. I wasn't trying to steal the Goose's thunder, and I'm glad the show is a success so far. Just means I was on the right track when I came up with the idea. Hopefully you make it through the end and carry on next season.

But... that bear, lol... :) hehe, I've had one lay down and sleep next to me, which was ok. But she kept trying to push me off my foam sleeping pad and take it for herself, so I gave in and we shared the warmth, it was nice. I went back to sleep and she took off before daylight a few hours later.

Reed, that bear story. Come on man.:nono:

I can imagine that happening with black bears..

honestly I think the biggest risk with a black bear is if it wants to wrestle.
but the ones around here are so timid they immediately try to run or find a tree to climb.

I'd say all bets are off if you don't give them an escape path.
otherwise, there are just like deer and rabbits

Yea, all we have around here is black bears. We had one that slept with the dog on the front porch a couple times, it was a 2 year old... It had been tamed by people up the hill, who were feeding them. The Sheriff came in and shut that down, so the bears started looking elsewhere for food. I had a 160lb Rottweiler, Akita mix. Neither would attack each other, so they made friends and slept together on our front porch. It would sit up on the hill and come running to me when I got home from work with the dog... The kids were young so I had to get a second dog and never had another bear problem until this last fall, now that the dogs have passed away from old age...

Just watched tonight's episode. All I gotta say is WOW! I'd give anything to turn up a one-ounce pan from a pothole!! Even dangling from a rope!!

Wells guys, it looks like I'll be taking a hiatus from the forums and shooting any Goose videos. Apparently the trolls and stalker types decided it was fun to bother my wife.

I'm very, very sorry to hear that, Boyce. What's WRONG with folks these days? All the best to you and your family.

Wow, that's terrible Boyce.. society is breaking down, crazies everywhere. Do what you gotta do, stay safe. I'm rooting for you!

Time for you (and her) to be changing email addy's and phone numbers.

Your program is being shown in many countries, and, like it or not, you are
now a known TV personality. Do what you can to insulate your family from
the idiots and people with nothing better to do than to cause trouble.

Still gonna be a fan..:occasion14:

Humans can be really unkind animals, they can also be absolutely the best, it is a choice. Keep yourself and your family safe and happy, thank you for your sharing and success in the future, keep smiling!.....................63bkpkr

Time to take her out and get her certified for a concealed carry permit. Buy her a nice small lady's pistol that she is comfortable with. One of the perks of being known is being known that you will shoot back :evil6:
RCW 9.41.070: Concealed pistol license?Application?Fee?Renewal.

As you know, it is your duty to protect her in every way. If it's become that serious, make sure that she doesn't have to go anywhere alone or always have friends and family close by her that understand the situation. As a father, we do our best to protect our children, grand children, etc. So if your wife is being harassed then make sure that the kids are safe.
