Diamond in the rough

[ModernMiner]

Yesterday I dug this diamond shaped (copper or brass?) piece out of the same hole as a CW musket ball. Maybe it was a fluke that they were in the same hole, but it looks to be old from that era. Any ideas what this may have been used for?
Thanks,
MM

Looks "field-made." Could have been anything. Some type of stabilizing piece to hold 2-3 pieces of wood/metal together? Or leather??

[BioProfessor]

Copper or brass without a green patina? Make you go Hmmmmm.

Daryl,
This is what it looked like before I attacked it with a vise and then a brass bristle brush.
Any idea?

[BioProfessor]

Yeah. Don't use the same technique for Reales.

Daryl

Daryl

Yeah, on the reales I usually use a belt sander or the Slap Chop.

[BioProfessor]

You know most people don't know that the Slap Chop originated to make change in merchants shops when people used Cobs to pay.

Daryl

[intimer]

that's really pretty funny.....thanks!

[BioProfessor]

Thanks. There will be people that DIDN'T get it?

Daryl

[extractor]

I remember those years

Daryl

I get it. That's exactly what I thought about when I posted it. The Spanish Silver Slap Chop I was was first put out for Renco.

[BioProfessor]

It was the first ACM.

I have about five Pocket Fishermans in the original boxes too. I think they came after the Colonial cane pole?

[BioProfessor]

You can usually tell as the Colonial poles had Pewter guides. Not the more modern brass, bronze, or copper.

Gypsy,
You have got to be kidding! A musky on a pocket fisherman is amazing. It was your lucky day for sure. You could have been the spokeswomen with a catch like that. Very cool.
I hope you & the family are doing well,
Doug
