Did my weekly dump @ a local Wells Fargo. In line in front of me were 2 elderly gentlemen, appearing to be a father son of 80 and 60 years old. As I got in line I heard the conversation
Teller: "No, we can't take any halves out of the coin counter, then the bags won't balance"
Older Man: "Well I don't care about that! We want those half dollars!"
Teller: "I'm sorry Sir, we don't have any half dollars we can sell you."
The gentlemen then walked out the door. The teller asked if she could help me, and I heaved my 2 bags of halves up on the counter and I said "for deposit, please" and she looked inside and said "No *explicitive*?!?"
I grinned. When the door closed behind those gentlemen as the left she then said "Those guys were looking for halves, maybe they’d want these…”
I grinned even larger and said "These aren't the halves they would be looking for...". The teller, a middle aged woman, giggled and got a kick out of the bad luck of the previous 2 rude gentelmen and asked a pretty buff younger male teller to count the coins.
The young man then came to grab my bags and ran them through the counter. He then asked if I was doing roll hunting. I smiled and said "yes" and fed him a line about running into a lot of silver hunters like those guys, as I’m on a hunt for the 1987, which was a very low mintage year and very rare to find in the wild. I bet that young man was hoping my dump was grandpa's collection, so I gave him enough information to know there's nothing good in there without being too much of a douche and wasting his time, I hope.
Funny thing is, a week ago Friday I went on hunting trip. My first 3 banks along the interstate said a small older man came in a day before me and got them all. My next 2 banks, however, had a handful of 40%s, and 7 90% ers, including 1 Walker and 2 Franklins.
I figured I had competition, as I live in a 200,000 person metro area in the middle of the predominantly rural upper Midwest, but I didn’t think I’d encounter any of them 2 weeks into this hobby. I hope it isn’t any of you guys….if it is…may the friendliest with the tellers win…and judged on how you treated that teller today…you’ll need all the luck you can get.
I know this isn't as funny as the trick Yougot played on that guy at his Union Bank...but I find it funny.
