Dig Site Pic/Finds

Thought I would take the camera along today to show the ravine I am digging. The big tree on the left is a walnut. The woods perimeter of the field is lined with walnut trees. If you look at the very top of the pic you can see where I plowed the edge of the field. I left the big root in the ravine to sit on plus I don't want to kill that walnut tree. I also put a pipe in the hole for drainage. Couple of Ft. Ancient pieces I dug today of the same material. And the last rock is a preform/tool that has a couple of gouge marks on it that I thought was interesting. Thanks for viewing.

You know I've been waiting to see this picture! Thanks for throwing it up. Good idea about leaving a "seat". Man, you gotta alot of tools there, that can't be easy digging around those roots. Have you dug that entire "hole" or is that part ravine, part dig? Nice work.

I dug most of it. Should have taken some before pics. The water drains thru a underground tunnel just below this area for another 15 feet or so and then comes back to the surface. I pulled a couple of shovels full out of it. Found pottery shards, flint, and mud. I guess I will be digging that area next. I told my girlfriend that if I find the missing piece to that discoidal that it will give me the power to control the world! LOL. As for the tools--I dig mostly with the large knife. As the small points can be damaged easily. Here is another pic of the field which is above the flood plane. The ravine is on the far end below the cedar trees on the left. Thanks for the reply.

That's a good looking piece of land, I bet you're standing smack dab in the middle of the occupation zone. Do you use a sifter?

I have a small sifter that a friend gave me. But I do not use it. I may sift the dirt in that hole to see if I missed anything. Ohio Brush Creek is about about 150 yards to the right in the pic of the field. Its about a mile north of the Ohio River. The cabin to the left that you can barely see is where I busted the guy making Meth. Thanks Guys.
