Relic Hunting
Dman had a doctors appointment this morning so we decided to listen to the weatherman who said we could get several hours of hunting in at a CSA Cavalry camp before the rain started later this afternoon. After only 2.5 hours, the rain started and was just heavy enough to make for miserable hunting. We did the next best thing and went to lunch. I had to buy lunch (Attn. Hill Billy) since I dug the last eagle button.
When we arrived, Doug said "What do you recommend?" like I was a guru or something-LOL. I suggested that he take his Minelab SE and search the trashy area where I dug the Eagle "I" button last week as there should be a few more bullets and maybe some buttons hiding in the iron. The first signal he dug was the very nice little cuff button with circles on it in the first pic with a good shank. In just a few minutes, he had dug the coat size flat button with gilding on the back. He also dug the 3 ring .58 and .69 cal. "Big Boy".
My first signal was the .69 cal. musket ball. The next bullet was the .56 cal. Burnaside Carbine bullet with part of the brass cartridge still attached. The corrosive black powder is not kind to the cartridge or the bullet. Just as the rain began, I dug the .36 cal. Colt conical bullet.
You may say "Why the fuss over some flat buttons?". This is a very early CS camp where the Confederate issued government buttons were not available and the CS Soldiers camped there had only what they brought from home which was the flat buttons and maybe a rare pre-war state militia button.
A rain shortened hunt with only a few good finds but it is always fun to dig CS relics. Doug called Tenn. Josh and I could hear Josh drooling over the phone and wishing he could have gone with us today-LOL. HH, Quindy.

H-ll, I say "why not?" I'll take old buttons all day long.
Nice CW relics guys. Glad to see Dman out enjoying the hobby again. :occasion14:
That place keeps putting out for you. Kind of like a late 1800's brothel. :love1:

Your finds seem very intriging. Youve been finding good CW relics but seems as of late your increasing on the great relics. Quindy , you are ONTO and gettin ONTO some great sites my friend. Good for you and congrats on the continued superb recoveries!

If you're buying lunch, I'm gonna Supersize. ;D

Great finds from a hard hit place. Consistently making good finds in a spot like that requires focus, determination, creativity, and a willingness to dig through trash to get the good stuff. Well done.

Sweet finds guys. Hopefully you can get back out there when the weather is better.

Very nice recoveries Quindy. Glad you all could get out for a lil while. HH!

Should read Attn. BBoy, he dug the last eagle button, and no he didn't buy lunch.
What's up with that?
You and Dman keep chugging Q, flat buttons are always good!

I had a free pass from the Jambalaya fest.

But...would've been happy to take you out to Dirty Queen for a filthy spoonful of gravy. :D They don't have gravy down here, and I kinda miss it. :P

Looks good to me. I like those finds. Tennessee digger
Since you discovered that camp Donnie, you know how scarce any buttons are to dig there. HH, Quindy.

Thanks Don, Rob, Hutch, Dave, Randy, MM (despite what Dman says, I know Nothing about a brothel that old-LOL), Roger, J.B., N.B., and Colleen. I hope all of you good weather and luck for your next hunts.
As to BB and HB, I can mediate this 'buying lunch" thing. BB, just send HB a $25 Cracker Barrel gift card. They have built in privvys there-LOL. HH gentlemen, Q.

I really enjoyed digging those buttons. The coat size button has on the back, Livingston, Waterloo. It was probably made somewhere else.

it's always worth the price of lunch to save a eagle .

I always think, if I can just dig one button than I know I made contact with the man that made that historical site possible.
Nice finds, Bill
