do you sell your coins when things get tight ?

winter is slow work for me ...so ever winter i cash in on the silver and my money coins ....
i just sold my 1794 half dime in ruff shape [ really ruff shape ]..and cashed in my gold and silver for the year ....any body else do it ?

Haven't found anything of much value yet....if it's worth a gazillion dollars I would sell it....otherwise it would sit in a collection. Clad is made to spend....it has no value but face so why keep it? It pays for batteries and MD snacks!

I just sold my first one. I said I would never sell anything but keeping the house warm up here in North Dakota is EXPENSIVE! I went through a 500 gallon tank of propane in a little over two months and I did not think I would go through it that fast . It was 11 below this morning and I cranked the heat again. Some times every little bit helps.

Selling clad for me is a no brainer! I have some silver coins. Looking at how much I can get for them, its not enough to sell it. What I do have a lot of...almost 100 rings since beginning hunting 2 years ago....I give some away to family and friends but can't seem to pull the trigger to sell them on ebay or have them melted down. I'm beginning to feel like Gollum from Lord of the Rings...

yes, in order to get out of debt.
I sold $210.00 face value of silver a few years ago &
used the money to become debt free except for my mortgage.

I am from Gulf Shores AL. originally. I grew up in some prime hunting locations for CW stuff and even older.I wish I would have gotten into detecting sooner.My father had a garret ground hog that I would take out some times but I did not take it seriously until right before I left from down there. By that time (1993) most of the good spots were being hunted hard or private property or the state had taken them over. The Spanish Fort area gave me a few CW relics but the no tresspassing signs were popping up everywhere. I am trying to get out of ND as soon as possable.It was 50 below this morning with windchill. No Kidding. This stuff is not fit for man nor beast.

Now that i'm retired (3 yrs) i have to say that you can't take it with ya is more true to me now.
the wife and i travel to the warm (in an old motorhome) from dec thru may then return home to wi for the summer and fall
i have been selling off my finds from the last 10 years or so to finance my finding of more and new treasure (gold and old sw artifacts) in az,nm,texas during the winter.
i live on my ss and a small pension (wife to young for ss) child bride don't ya know, ha ha .
so, the 5-8 thousand a year i get from selling off my treasures to be able to find more treasure is worth it to me.
like the man said be sure to take pictures for your treasures (before you sell) so, the relatives will be able to see what they didn't get.........

Had to sell a twenty dollar gold coin the other day, a real killer, got a great price though. I have sold more old coins than most people have seen. On the other hand I have bought several coins found by other treasure hunters. I have many coins like King George coppers found by others on the east coast. Coin dealers sell them cheap because they are porous and dug. My greatest dug find is a 1500's four real dug by someone on Padre island. Would have to be starvin to sell that beauty !....Kane23

I sell all my clad. Whenever the fall starts getting colder I clean and roll my clad and cash it in
at my bank. Any more I accumulate during fall/winter, I just add to my total for the next year.
It buys my metal detectors and accessories for the next year. Any caches are sold a part of as
needed. In a tight spot I might sell off some gold or silver, but I want to keep as much as possible for retirement.

Set yer favorites aside to hold out for last, but don't hesitate to do what may be necessary.
