do you sell your coins when things get tight ?

winter is slow work for me ...so ever winter i cash in on the silver and my money coins ....
i just sold my 1794 half dime in ruff shape [ really ruff shape ]..and cashed in my gold and silver for the year ....any body else do it ?

Sold some silver coins a few years ago but that was just stuff I found in change not dug up. I would never sell my keepers be cause they mean to much to me.

I've sold gold and silver over the years and soon realized I missed it. Now I will unload only clad and scrap gold, not silver coins or good gold rings.

I accumulate the clad until it fills up the storage box, then convert it to silver at the local coin shop.

I sell every thing i can that is why i hunt for fun and money. If it is something really nice take a picture then you can look at it any time you want. I am not a collecter....... it does me no good sitting around in the house.But it does do me good when i cash in.......................==Jim==

I recently sold some silver {some from crh some purchased} I save the clad from my coin roll hunting till I get a couple grand worth and then put it in my checking account. I do not like to have cash laying around and not making me $

I did once. Don't think I got what it was worth...but I'm not up on metal prices. I TH for fun and toss the stuff where ever in places I dont remember. Still got a couple wads of coins in paper towels in the car from last year with some silver dimes.
I'll round it all up and decide if I want to keep it or not.
More than likely, once I get a few more than necessary, i'll sell it off.

I have before but it was an emergency type of situation. I hope never to have to again other than changing in clad for paper.

i've never sold anything because things got tight. and there were a few times when things did get realy tight. my clad usually goes toward my next detector. sell scrap gold once in a while. i donated over 1000 wheat pennies and at least 200 foreign coins to my club several months ago. i personally am getting tired of having stuff laying all over just sitting around in a display case or box. i'm in the process of beginning to sell over 300 silver rosies. you may see it soon here on the site under for sale. as for rings 2 weeks ago i dropped off 30 gold rings to my jeweler to have them linked together and have a chain made out of them. i usually dont wear jewelry but i'm getting the chain made just to wear to my meatings and hunts. a few friends thought that would be a strange looking chain. but in my opinion it,s not sitting in a display box anymore and it is definately one of a kind piece of jewelry. i do on the other hand know a few people who go straight to the local jewelry store and sell what they find right away. whether things are tight or not.

Not too much. I sell other people's finds instead.

Over the years I made contact with some good THers and I buy their dug goodies for wholesale prices. I could sure be king of Today's Finds if I wanted to be dishonest.

I've had piles of pieces of eight, buckets of Civil War relics, you name it.

My finders usually have small amounts, I buy them and resell them on ebay. Collectors will buy from me and not from others because I've grandually developed a trusting following. Repeat buyers is the name of the game. However, profit is quickly spent paying for my detecting addiction (and some other bills).

See, I have an agreement with my wife that I won't use family money on my hobby. So, I have to earn the extra bucks (apart from my job) if I want something.

My wife is a very gracious person and has put up with a lot from me over the years. Back in 1983 I spent nearly $30,000 on my treasure hunting toys. Yes, I do tend to get carried away!

I feel for you guys who have to sell your finds. I understand that completely. But when it comes right down to it, we're not going to take any of this stuff with us, are we?

I don't sell my rings , silver coins or dollar coins, I usally give the rings away to family, that is if wife does not claim them first. Clad I clean and keep until I fill the coffee can I keep them in then off to the coin machine in the nearest supermarket. (I hate rolling coins.)

Back to the topic at hand, I'm not much of a collector myself (except for silver coins). I'll hang onto jewelry until I'm bored with it, then give it away or sell it. Clad goes into the coin rolling pile and is cashed in for paper.
