Hello! I just recently got my first metal detector a couple weeks ago. Ace 350. Haven't been able to go out as much as I like but I am really enjoying it. Don't know If I will ever find as cool of stuff up here in Michigan but still fun to look.

Does anybody actually find valuable things and sell them? Do most people find valuable things and hang onto them? Just curious.

I can't speak for anybody else but I keep what I find.. I enjoy finding old coins and adding them to my collection.. As for where your located they had silver coins up in michigan too.. You never know what kind of cool stuff is in the ground until you start digging holes.. Good luck in your hunting..

Welcome th3icecreamman! Yes Both! As you read through the Tnet family albums here it will give you some insight as to what would interest you! Great group of interesting individuals and very helpful!! Of course one MUST find something first!! Best of luck!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

I find a lot of good items i have been at this for over 40 years.................. And i sell every thing it does not thrill me to have things set on a shelf or in a book to look at ........... The only thing i have kept is my very first find ... For i am not a collector or hoarder

Welcome aboard!
I started back in 1982, used the $$. I quit detecting because of job restraints and started again in 2004. I again got rid of my finds. Recently retired, I started mding again. I'm keeping everything. I regret not keeping my finds from previous years. My plans are to trade the Zinc Lincolns for 1/2 dollar pieces and put them in my clad jar, so it will be easy to count the Zincs.
You can always sell your finds, but when they are gone, they are gone.

Uh, a quick look at the "today's finds" forum, and the "best finds" forum of T'net should answer this question. Also look at the beach hunting forum of T'net, since some beach guys tend to put their show & tell brag stuff on that forum, instead of the general "finds" forums.

When I got older, I got smarter. I now keep a few things now mostly for the memories not there value. Hay I would look strange wearing an engagement ring, But then again in these days, I don;t know. LOL Frank...

I appreciate the information. I found a few things. Nothing special. As I haven't been able to out the time in yet, I was excited to find a 1940 Canadian penny. I was mostly curious. I wasn't sure if you can sell stuff for great value or most of it is better having saved it.

Given the private bank, Fed Reserve printing "dollars" or in truth, notes (a debt instrument), keeping what silver and gold you may find is an extremely good idea.

I have yet to sell any of my finds but I have only really been hunting for a few months but I have got some mexican peso coins like $22 worth but I have yet to get rid of them. I first thought oh sweet, just find things and sell them for cash. I find it would be hard to do so as I like the stuff I dig even though I have yet to find something of high value.

... ...Another reason i sell every thing i find is that have no attachment to items that is not a living thing .....

My first MD was a Relco. I bought it as a kit and had to buy a soldering iron to put it together. It was the ugliest MD you have ever seen. I found some horseshoes and other scrap iron my first day with it. I was just a kid about 13 and ran home to show my mother the treasure i found.

I sell because its what I do for a living and I always think the next field is going to have something better in it. It allows me to escape the winter and go abroad each year (around 24 countries to date).

I'm not really interested in coins but do like to keep items such as pub tokens going back to medieval times as they were produced in such limited numbers for very specific areas. Things like cannonballs/spear/arrowheads I have two or three on the go at a time to deal with the ferrous decay. Don't get it right and a cannonball opens up like a cauliflower in time. Rings, it all depends on the gold price. Last year I sold day by day, this year I'm building stocks.
