Detecting for gold in a gold field? And it's highly magnetic, not just mildly? Very possible that it's magnetite. I don't see a fusion crust on your sample--that's often a sign of a meteorite.

All the best,

Lanny

Perform a streak test on your toilet with it to be sure, but its probably just magnetite.

Here's a flow chart about meteorites, I borrowed from Jolyon at Mindat.org that I think sums it up pretty well:

Fossilized doodie?

If it feels really heavy - probably magnetite.

Found one awhile back.
Performing the toilet test ... swoosh ... no streak left in the bowl.
But my rock is gone. Now what am i suppose to do? :laughing7: :dontknow: :laughing7:

Iron oxide ore, magnetite or hematite, if you do t have a streak plate use the bottom of an unglazed mug, if red streak hematite. No streak maybe magnetite. The magnet is not necessarily an indicator of magnetite. I have picked up quite a few of these in the desert floor.

Looks like magnetite. Stuff is everywhere where I live.

Thanks everyone I think there's gold on the inside now I have to figure how to cut it open????

That's easy enough. Do it the way man has been doing it forever. Throw it on the grill for an hour then drop it in a bucket of cold water. Should shatter like a bad alibi.

take a fine file and file a small flat spot and see if it shines like metal. If it does then it will have to be analized to see what it's composed of.

Looks like Hematite nodules we have in my area.

Note: For the 'Grill'/water test, wear very heat resistant gloves and safety glasses. Good luck getting inside your sample........63bkpkr
