sorry just a rock, if rock was utilized there are unmistakable signs of use ,or ware ,i understand the grove across the midsection could make one think that a strap or thong of sorts was used, but look to to the rest of stone for evidence of being struck.keep looking though.hh

Welcome to the site but it a natural stone. Mother nature makes all types of cool looking rocks. HH, rock

Looks like a chunk of stained limestone. I have several pieces that are unique and colorful due to erosion.

Just a naturally eroded rock, not an artifact. What you are calling "paint" is just the natural pigment of the stone.

Actually, it could be an artifact. But it's one of those pieces that you'll only know if you travel back in time to see the person using it.

Thanks everyone,I had a feeling it might be just a rock.

Nothing wrong with collecting rocks just in case you are wondering. I collect rocks that look good that I find in the areas I have found artifacts in. I really think the Indians collected the same type of thing. Just for show and decoration.

I agree with Rock :) I have rocks laying around everywhere! Some I thought were artifacts, most I picked up because they were cool looking. I just started my Fall term and Geology is one of my courses. I feel like a kindergartner wanting to bring in my show n' tell, lol.

I carry home a bag of rocks from ever walk I take. Never come home empty handed.

You guys are sooo great... if you only knew the bags of rocks I drag home... at the time they all look like something...till I get them home.. LOL

been there done that

I know exactly what you mean. I find rocks on my hunts that are surely an Artifact ..when I get home its not at all what I thought it was.

Lets see the ones in you avatar.

Hot damn! That's always been my motto. Watch out doing this though. I have so many rocks to get rid of. My truck probably gets 12 miles to the gallon rather than the 16-18 miles it should get.
