I find that headphones reduce the echo effect in my empty braincase! Seriously, they do cut down outside noise distractions such as kids playing, cars, birds, etc. and help you focus more on the signals that you are getting.

along with "what you doin?" (me )looking for coins etc.
"find ne thing?" (nope junk)*i lie less compatition
"i have one of "those" from radio shack, had it a few years." (cool go get it)"well, i dont know how to use it?"

Even an inexpensive set is better than none. As was mentioned individual volume controls is good. I also prefer a coiled cord (like a telephone). The cord tends to get tangled and snagged less than a straight one.

In the cave I don't use them and come out about the same, but in there is is very quite and nobody around to bother them and me! Outside it is a good idea and you don't bother other people! Best we keep a low profile anyways!

Wow......dialect of buttocks.........thanks for the jibberish.

Not using them in a park will attract many kids and attention from maybe the bad crowd. Plus they let you hear the faint "ALMOST A SOUND."
