Does this look like gold in this Smokey/Clear Quartz ?

I can usually always tell but i really dont want to crush it and i dont want to crack it. I found that while prospecting for gold in Northern Virginia, Goldvien area part of the gold belt? I've had it for 4 years now and I'm still wondering, I know it's just a pic but I hope someone can identify and also any ideas on how to bring it to the surface......like sandpaper?

Most likely iron oxide. I've seen a few samples of gold in quartz and it looks like the gold a gold coin is made of. Still there could be some elements of gold in the rock you can't see.

Why not crush and pan. If gold is left in the pan then you have your answer.

There is probably a retirement center or maybe a lapidary club near you that has lapidary equipment for the members to use....diamond saws, flat lap polishers, etc. One of the members may be willing to cut and polish part of your specimen were you to ask.

Not ugly enough to contain gold my friend That's most likely some Tourmaline (sp?) or something similar in the quartz.
