Dog License tag ?

[Fingerlakes119]

I found a dog tag that says The Humane Society, Rochester NY #6716 Call GR 3-7240.
Can anyone give me an age on this?

Not without seeing it ?

Shape ? Color ? metal used ? all make a difference most recently most tags are colored aluminum
& oval

GR 3-7240. sounds late 50's 60's to me

Oval, Looks like steel or iron

I'm going to stick with late 50's 60's because of the phone number GR 3-7240

OK a Little History,

New York introduced the LLN-NNNN format in 1930
with all the other cities following suit in 1947–48.

so 1947–48. Forward

So Jeff nailed down the earliest probable date. I'll nail down the latest. Pre 1968 in all likelihood. I believe the phone company did away with the letter prefixes around that time frame.
