DON"T HUNT THERE! But I did :)

One of the area's best coin/ring shooters told me to not even bother with this site. He had hunted out everything worth digging and others had also beaten it to death.

Now, normally I'd think the guy was just trying to keep the site for himself but I know this guy and he hasn't got a selfish bone in his body. And too, he's one of the most successful THers I've ever met. Once he dug a real diamond ring that would retail upwards of $5,000.

Okay, so I came to this site to get skunked. I didn't even bother to recharge my Tejon's batteries. I figured I just drain them down more for the next charge.

About my 7th or 8th target turned out to be an old football charm at about 6 inches deep. Then I dug lots of junk like kerosene lamp parts, zinc lids, tin scraps, etc.

To make a long story a little shorter I finally ended up by the biggest tree in this part of Michigan. They say it's at least 150 years old. Trees grow very slowly here so I'd guess more like 200. The local township hall has a picture of this tree taken in 1900 and it was as big around as a man back then!

Well I thought It would be cool to dig an old coin by this town's "historic tree." I did my Tejon thing using my own "secret method" and dug lots of unknown junk. Suddenly I get a very nice sound right in between some trash signals. I could only move the coil about 2 inches back and forth to hold the signal. I dug down only about 3 inches and there was one of the finnest Indian cents I have ever dug! It has a full bold liberty and once I clean it a little it will be my IH prize! Trust me, it looks 10 times better to the eye! It must of been lost almost new.

The rest of the digs here are self explanatory. Some of them are unknown to me so I'll have to post them again and see if anyone knows what they are.

HH,

Badger

Hi,

I have a theory that the 1968-1979 Hunters that me and some friends I have newly named DiscoTectors. :D The theory is they have machines that before the "Rip you off era" Could find the precious metals and leave out the Older Coppers. In area's they have well searched with those machines we now can find those Older Coppers with full disc. on our modern machines...but can't find the precious metals. ;D Cause the discotectors took them all ;)

Keep @ it and HH!!

"DiscoTectors" eh? I like that ;D

One thing is for sure though; one doesn't find much silver at those sites that were heavily hunted back in the early days of the hobby. I didn't really get serious about detecting until 1968. By that time probably 60% of the shallow silver was already gone from most parks. By 1983 the silver I was digging was mostly dimes and I rarely found a silver quarter or half. Today one can hunt some old parks for several days before finding even 1 silver coin or piece of jewelry.

It's really great when one can find an untouched site. I did one last week and it was a turkey shoot! About 3 out of 5 digs were coins. But I didn't have but a short time to hunt that site so it's still there waiting for my return.

The secret to experiencing the good old days today is to do research and hunt the more difficult locations.

The whole reason we have to work so stinkin hard today to find something good is because most easy sites have been worked so hard that what's left is mostly masked by trash or just too deep.

I may or may not have hunted that spot. It all depends on how much hunting time I have. If I have all day, I might try it a couple of hours, if only an hour or 2 probably not. Also If I have no good finds for a while I tend to leave an area. By the way no spot is ever hunted out.

Swing your Tejon with honor and mock the nonbelievers!!!

Go go Tejon power!!

PS... What headphones are those?

Re: DON"T HUNT THERE! But I did :)

The shiny tubular item is a mini lipstick, it should pull open.

Thanks.

They're just cheap phones I got free with the Tejon. Can't recall the name on them just now.

I personally never saw any difference between the cheap and expensive headphones. I owned a top brand once and sold them on ebay. I look now mostly for light weight and general comfort.

Thanks! My wife and I had this discussion about that tube and I thought it was just liptick.

I cleaned this one and the football. They both were black when dug.

I know these mini lipsticks must be pretty old because they're often very deep and at very old hunt sites. I'm guessing 30's maybe?

So far I've been unable to open this tube.

Sweet, thanks for sharing.

Re: DON"T HUNT THERE! But I did :)

WTG Badger!!!! That IH probably seemed iffy to most machines and lead the MD's to leave her be!!!! Nice job with your new Tesoro- now go get that 5.75 coil and see what else is there ;D
